Really upset - Mum and MIL are having a go at us.

I feel like just changing her middle name completely.

It took 7 years to become pregnant, so we probably won't try for another.

We thought it would be nice to honour both grandmothers, but only wanted her to have 1 middle name.

My mum is Julia, my MIL is Ariana.

We chose Juliana for her middle name...

We were so excited to tell everyone the name, thinking they'd be so excited. No, all we get is "you should have given her 2 middle names" "you've now used neither of our names" and obviously many more.

I'm just so upset.

Katherine Juliana is lovely. I think I'd stick with that.

ElizabethHoney · 30/11/2016 18:48

I love the name Juliana - it's a beautiful and thoughtful any to honour both grandmothers. I think it's more beautiful than Olivia, although your father sounds now deserving!

SILfoundmyusername · 30/11/2016 18:12

What did you decide OP?

TurquoiseDress · 25/11/2016 17:28

Reading back over some of the posts in this thread- don't go changing her middle name of account of the grandmothers having a hissy fit.

What sort of precedence does this make for the future? Shock

TurquoiseDress · 25/11/2016 17:24

I think Juliana is lovely

They need to pipe down

It's your baby, name them whatever you like!

Touchmybum · 21/11/2016 12:13

PS meant to say, you can be more fertile after having a baby, so don't rule out another one! x

user1471950254 · 21/11/2016 11:56

I think both names are beautiful and I don't understand their reaction at all! I agree with one PP that if you change the name at this point you may always remember the drama of now.

I'm not sure what you should do beyond what makes you and your DH happy! I think it's sooooooooo rude to comment negatively on babies' names when it's up to the parents. Surely it's not difficult to smile and say "that's lovely"!

Touchmybum · 21/11/2016 11:28

My 'vote' is also Katherine Olivia - can imagine your dad will be chuffed, and your mum/mil aren't impressed with Juliana anyway. So long as your surname doesn't start with an 'i' or something!

BTW I love the spelling, 'Katharine'. My DS would have been 'Eve Katharine' if he had been a she!

NiceCupOfTeaAndASitDown · 20/11/2016 13:41

Don't know what you've decided on but I think Katherine Juliana is just the most beautiful name. Regardless of her grandmothers childish responses you have put a lot of thought into her name and come up with something that is both family related but also unique to her. Congratulations on your baby and I hope you are able to rise above (but not forget Wink) this horrible debacle and enjoy your baby

sj257 · 20/11/2016 11:59

Wow, have they got some sort of expectation that their names would be her middle name?!? How rude. I'd completely choose another name now

HKW81 · 20/11/2016 08:12

Which did you go for in the end OP?

I would have chosen Olivia for your dad. How hurtful they're being!

Enkopkaffetak · 20/11/2016 00:15

DD1 has a Danish mn. (The name of the Danish queen) My name book (In Danish) said it was the English equivilent of MILS MN.. It was also my paternal grandmothers MN. Dh and I loved the idea of having 1 name that tied our 2 families (pretty hard when you have a Danish and English culture to merge) Named her and explained to all why she was named such.

FFW 5 years I am expecting dd3.. MIL suggests her name. (A name I dont like but didnt say this) I respond " no you already have a Grandaughter named after you " She goes " well No its not my name so I cant see that"

I responded " well the thought was there so thats all I care about"

(This is one of only 2 times I have ever disagreed with my MIL so not mil bashing she is generally lovely)

SO OP. Next time they say anything tell them " the thought was there to honour you both. If you dont see that this is your problem not ours"

As really that is what it is. Their problem not yours and dh's You did it for the right reasons (and also Juliana is a wonderful name)

nooka · 19/11/2016 22:43

I'm really sorry that your plan didn't work out OP. You had a lovely thought and hoped it would be appreciated. I'm afraid I can also see the point of view of the grandmothers, especially Ariana. They should have been a lot more gracious though, and respected your intentions.

Katherine Olivia works very well. Juliana is lovely too.

Frazzledmum123 · 19/11/2016 21:59

I think Katherine Olivia flows better but I prefer Juliana to Olivia and I think you may regret not going for it eventually

Out of interest, do you pronounce is Julie-Anna or Julie-arna? I'm actually a bit in love with it now Smile

BrioLover · 19/11/2016 21:57

They can fuck off. What a nice idea, to honour both. Although those kind of self-centred comments would make me want to find another name... it is a very lovely name though!

Elizalou01 · 19/11/2016 21:46

Your solution was a great one and the name lovely. Your relatives are behaving very childishly and anyway it's not up to them to choose names. What is your father's name, is there a feminine version. I would say as they are so offended by your choice you have decided to abandon that idea and call her after your father who liked the idea.

Blackbird82 · 19/11/2016 19:10

Oh what silly childish women they are....

I think it's a lovely middle name. But I think you should change it to Olivia in recognition of your supportive Dad. Fuck them both.....

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 19/11/2016 16:24

Did you name her Katherine Olivia OP ?

AmysTiara · 19/11/2016 13:34

I'd change her name. Olivia should be the new middle name. What a pair of moaning minnies.

WouldHave · 19/11/2016 13:30

You would just have to be careful about Katherine Olivia if your surname begins with W. Or maybe R and O.

ScarletMoonlight · 19/11/2016 13:29

Twats! I'd go for Katherine Olivia Smile

OpalTree · 19/11/2016 12:08

Tell then you are going with Juliariana. (Not really.)

MimiSunshine · 19/11/2016 08:58

They're spoilt brats. They clearly only want their name. Go with what makes you happiest, if you really like your original choice then stick with it but if you love your second and knowvyour Dad would be honoured then go for that.

I gave my daughter a middle name which is a variation of my mum and my Nanna's name, my mum was thrilled even though on paper it's not immediately obvious and I bet none of our wider family even realise the link

User1987654 · 18/11/2016 23:05

How very ungreatful. You did the right thing. Don't adjust your behaviour. They need to adjust theirs. Leave her beautiful middle name as is.

Baylisiana · 18/11/2016 22:46

OP whatever you do please initially pretend you are going with Melania as a pp suggested Grin
