Opinions on the name Benjamin?

We like Ben/Benny too, so no issues with potential NNs.

Thoughts on Benjamin?

Not keen, but it's safe enough. Ben on grown men has always sounded a bit wet to me for some reason. Benedict has a bit more spunk to it.

BratFarrarsPony, it means both "son of my right hand" and also "son of my old age" or "son of my sorrow" (so was commonly used when the mother had died in childbirth), which is where the last born thing comes from.

I like it but it's the most popular lads name by a country mile in my ds's year, my ds knows 6 in his school friends, he has lunch with 3 most days and 4 on his football team. Ds is year 10.

Mine is a PFB, but also looked likely to be a PLB thanks to his dad's cancer treatment. Fortunately that wasn't so and he doesn't seem to have suffered from being inappropriately named.

I adore Benjamin.

Benjamin and Maximilion were my boy names.

I never got to use either, I had 3 girls.

It's lovely, it means last born and I'm a little judgey of pfbs called it. A bit like a blond Bruno.

I married one, and know 4 or 5 who are all early to mid teens now but no little children that I can think of.

Well, I have one so my opinion isn't exactly objective....

Mine is 6 and has always been the only one in baby groups / toddler groups / his year at school. I do live in a poncy part of north London where we were once at a toddler sing-song group with 2 little Inigos, so that might be why.

I like it! Weirdly knew lots when I was a child/teen (I'm in my early thirties) but know none as an adult

Yes, Ben is nice, but Benjamin is a bit soppy, IMO.

'Benny' was a popular playground insult in the unenlightened 1980s.

I also find Ben a little dull, there are so many around. A bit like Steve, Mike or Andy for our generation - nothing offensive but just a little dull imo.

Lovely strong name. My cousin is one and he certainly isnt wet at a strapping 6ft 4ins!

Benjamin is nice, but I prefer Benedict.
Ben is great, Benny is awful.
On the whole, a great name.

Was one of my fave names til DH's best friend pinched it for their pfb. I would say it is very popular round these parts (SW London) and for example 3.5 year old DS has two out of his 18 child kindy class. It would have been three if I had gone with it.

But it is a lovely solid name.

My brothers name. Was always known as Ben. Was v popular when I was a kid but might be less so now.
Nice classic name.
Also may I share the (bad) joke that he and my grandpa came up with, when he was little. Why is Benjamin like a doughnut? Because they both have jam in the middle. GrinHmm
