Our baby girl, who's due in December, needs a name :)

Madeleine Violet or Violet Madeleine?

We love them both!

I know what you mean about Madeleine.
I think i might see words as pictures or something. And once I had seen that, I could no longer not see it, if u see what I mean.
However there is also the very brainy and inventive teenage Violet in 'A series of unfortunate events' which is a good association.

Loafingaround · 18/11/2016 14:37

"brat" when I hear Violet I associate it with the beautiful flower, so don't even come close to hearing or associating It with violent as its just so far removed. You Could say the samE about so many names where I letter difference would be a different word?! However I will never be able to hear the name Madeleine without think of Mccann so even if I did like the name, I'd definitely not use it.

cmxx · 17/11/2016 22:01

Violet definitely! I really dont like Madeleine

I do think Madelyn/Madalyn is pretty though

MaisyPops · 16/11/2016 12:28

I like both but prefer Violet, mainly because I dislike Maddie as a shortened version and nicknames are inevitable.

goldenrachita · 16/11/2016 12:08

They're both nice. I prefer Violet because I think there are a lot of Maddies around. Also I've heard Madeleine pronounced in slightly different ways by different people, even in the course of the same conversation! eg. Made-eh-lin or Mad-eh-laine so you'd need to be sure that wouldn't bother you because I am sure it would happen a lot.

BratFarrarsPony · 16/11/2016 11:41

am sorry but how is Violet those things? am I honestly the only person who when they see 'Violet' associates with the word 'violent'? it is just one letter difference!

starkers1 · 16/11/2016 11:39

Violet by so so much!! Violet is beautiful, graceful and special. Madeleine sounds quite 80s and us very middle of the road.

TeshiB · 16/11/2016 09:29

Violet Madeleine

CakeRattleandRoll · 16/11/2016 00:07

Madeleine Violet

Sophronia · 15/11/2016 21:52

Madeleine Violet

MistressMolecules · 15/11/2016 21:12

Violet, much prettier.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 15/11/2016 20:21

Violet Madeleine.

NonFatTofuttiRiceDreamsicle · 15/11/2016 19:56

Violet is lovely. Madeleine is too, but Violet edges it. I'm afraid that rightly or wrongly my first thought on hearing Madeleine is 'McCann' Sad , so Violet would win anyway even if I didn't slightly prefer the sound of it.

Flowercat16 - I love Maddie. I'd definitely use that... I didn't think Violet would be shortened!

Floralnomad · 15/11/2016 19:50

Madeleine , I'm not keen on Violet .

Flowercat16 · 15/11/2016 19:47

Both are lovely. You could narrow down the order by which name shortening do you prefer the most i.e. Violet - Vi/Vee/Lettie or Maddy/Mads.

Coey2016 · 15/11/2016 19:44

I would go for Madeleine, so pretty. Violet is lovely too though.

buttercup54321 · 15/11/2016 19:38

Violet every time xx

KlingybunFistelvase · 15/11/2016 19:34

Just a weird coincidence I reckon OP. I've never met a baby with either name myself, so don't think they're terribly common.

KlingybunFistelvase · 15/11/2016 19:32

Let me check my "I'm on" list for you OP! It's entirely possible I'm just going a bit Confused.

TurquoiseClouds · 15/11/2016 19:23

KlingybunFistelvase - really? I thought the name would be slightly unusual... :( as in, the names together!

OP posts:
EsmesBees · 15/11/2016 19:23

I love both these names. Madeleine Violet edges it slightly.

KlingybunFistelvase · 15/11/2016 19:20

Violet by miles.

I'm sure I've answered this exact question already this week... or am having some serious deja vu!

Either way, Violet every time Smile.

AdrienneVole · 15/11/2016 19:19

They are both lovely but I prefer Madeleine.
