Whats your thoughts? It sounds nice with our tricky surname and is difficult to shorten. I know it's a surname but I don't have an issue you that.

Aussie Holden car and using a surname as first name. Surely you can come up with a better name than this?

I thought aussie cars too. They are what Aussies call Vauxhall basically.

I'm Australian, so it means a car manufacturer to me.

Second thought is The Catcher in the Rye, and he's not exactly the type of literary figure to name your son for (not like, say, Atticus).

But it's not awful.

It reminds me of my ancient Holden Sunbird I had in Australia, and of course Holden Caulfield.

They will probably acknowledge he has the same name for about a day and that will be it, honestly can't see him getting any grief over it...you never know they just might think it's cool...I would have at 16.

I think of Holden as being only a surname so don't like it. Sorry!

Catcher in the Rye is on the recommended reading list in schools so it's likely they would know who that was. Also, the name isn't just going to be used by his school pals. And Jack is an incredibly common name, so not quite the same as 'Holden'....

My first thought was Holden Caulfield but that's maybe showing my age!

My first thought is that it sounds like 'hold on'. Personally I'm not a fan of surnames as first names.

FWIW, I quite like it. Unusual but it's a strong name, and none of the other associations people have mentioned stand out too much. If you like it, go for it!

Will they really in RL? I doubt it. Can't see his school pals teasing him about a character in a book from the early 50's somehow.
Every name has a history, do Jacks get teased about the Ripper?

Honestly never heard of the Aussie cars, don't think many in the UK have so not an issue. I think the Catcher association is quite cool...at least it's not like the Exorcist one in a pp.
