Thoughts on these names?

I THINK we like these as first names: Abel
Atticus
Ivan
Otis
Luther

Potential middle names or names I like but have been vetoed:
Valiant
Valour
Valentine
True
Rohan
Zion
Zephan
Art
Cass? Cassius? Cassian? Caspar?
Red
Orion
Phoenix
Boyd

Can you expand or reduce this list!?!
(I hate boys names)

I really like Otis, Atticus and Ivan as first names. They're great classic names but not that unusual, I know boys with all of those names.

Middle names - they so rarely get used, so just choose a name with meaning to you, maybe a family nam?

VanessaBet · 12/11/2016 21:22

Otis! Love it

Couflan · 12/11/2016 21:18

I know a real life pair of brothers who are really called Ivan and Red funnily enough!

EweAreHere · 12/11/2016 21:15

Ivan True

I see nothing else.

Overthinker2016 · 12/11/2016 20:55

I like Atticus

What about Amos or Gabe

DerelictMyBalls · 12/11/2016 20:07

You have great taste. I like Red, Art and Ivan the best.

WhatKatyDidnt · 12/11/2016 17:08

True

icantgetnosleep5 · 12/11/2016 13:10

i LOVE Abel :)
the names on ur potential list r horrendous !! Plze don't call a boy True!

Pluto30 · 12/11/2016 10:40

Abel - I like this one. Plus, Amy Poehler used it for her son and I luh her, so this is, by extension, very cool

Atticus - The name that everyone trying to be "unique" chooses

Ivan - Milat or The Terrible

Otis - Milo and Otis

Luther - I know a guy named this (and his middle name is also strange, this Balthazar but not quite), and it couldn't be more obvious that his parents are both drama teachers

--

Valiant - No. Incredibly try-hard

Valour - See above

Valentine - See above (funnily enough, though, I like Valentina for a girl)

True - See above

Rohan - Lovely

Zion - Not awful, but not fantastic either

Zephan - No

Art - Prefer Arthur, but this could work depending on the first name

Cass? Cassius? Cassian? Caspar? - I like Caspar and Caspian, but not Cass (girl's name - reminds me of Mama Cass/Cass Elliott) or Cassius

Red - Cool, like it

Orion - Fine, could work with the right first name

Phoenix - River Phoenix (worked for him, but I've yet to see another River or Phoenix who suits the name)

Boyd - I like this one

So, these would be my picks:

  • Abel Rohan (my favourite)
  • Abel Red
  • Abel Orion
  • Abel Boyd
SpunkyMummy · 12/11/2016 10:39

Ohh.... I didn't even think of that. But probably, yes :)

Sir Red and his sword Valour! Fought bravely and gave his life to defend Princess Gwen.

But seriously, Op. Caspar is a great name. And Ivan is lovely.

Chinlo · 12/11/2016 10:34

However, Valour, Valiant and True? I imagine some sort of warrior brandishing his sword and growling 'death before dishonour'

And those are the names of the swords, right? Grin

SpunkyMummy · 12/11/2016 10:25

*Rohan would be kind of cool. Especially as a middle name. But then again, I love LoTR (not 'just' the movies. The books! And the accompanying books :)!)

However, Valour, Valiant and True? I imagine some sort of warrior brandishing his sword and growling 'death before dishonour' (ok, wrong era, but shhhh....).

heebiejeebie · 11/11/2016 23:54

Asher

SatsukiKusakabe · 11/11/2016 23:50

I think they marketed it that way, tbh klingy - and it sort of goes into the future further so that's how they've justified it, but it was actually what she wrote first and had rejected and altered into TKAM.

BeastofCraggyIsland · 11/11/2016 23:16

Ivan or Otis are ok from the first list. Abel is too Biblical and Atticus too hipster-trendy for me. I quite like Caspar.

The second list other than Caspar is erm... interesting. 'Riders of Rohan! Arise, arise! Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! ... Ride for ruin… and the world’s ending! Death! Death!' That is the immediate context when I hear Rohan, and LoTR isn't exactly likely to fall out of the general consciousness. If you call him Rohan, you really need to get him a horse Grin

Bumplovin · 11/11/2016 22:25

Ivan is my cousins name it's my favourite out of your list x

QueenLizIII · 11/11/2016 22:24

How about Orson as a first name.

HedgehogHedgehog · 11/11/2016 22:23

Ivan Valentine is an amazing name. I would be compelled to try and befriend anyone i met with that name to see if they were as much of a legend as their name suggested!

KlingybunFistelvase · 11/11/2016 22:21

Ah thanks satsuki. For some reason I thought it was the sequel.

Buntysoven · 11/11/2016 22:20

I like Abel Cassius from your names. I know I'm in the minority but I think Atticus is an appalling name to saddle a person with!

SatsukiKusakabe · 11/11/2016 22:12

It's not really a sequel; it's a first draft that is not as good as the book she went on to write, It will never succeed TKAM in popular culture IMHO

That is a very strong association with that particular name, so if you don't think your ds will tire of having that conversation every time he meets someone new, I wouldn't worry too much.

gingerboy1912 · 11/11/2016 21:35

Abel

SpunkyMummy · 11/11/2016 21:31

The 'wasteful' comment wasn't meant to be taken seriously. I just think these are genuinely awesome names.

SpunkyMummy · 11/11/2016 21:31

I also like Orion.

I'd pick Orion, Caspar or Ivan. They're lovely :) it's a bit wasteful to use any of them them as a middle name...

Pebbles0934 · 11/11/2016 21:30

Yes I've heard about that actually regarding Atticus which does put me off... also haven't read it myself though.
