Baby is half Persian and DP likes Cyrus for a boy. Opinions pls? Does it work in the UK?

I really like it.

Yes surname is Iranian and we already have a Siroos in the family so would go with the more anglicised Cyrus, nickname Cy.

Daughter is Ariana so couldn't use Aryan and don't like the connotations hence why we changed the spelling of DD's name.

Cyrus is great! Please don't use Aryan, with all the fascist governments shooting up.

Gruffalosfriend · 09/11/2016 11:01

I really like Cyrus! And as there aren't many around, he will make the name his own, as in people will associate it with your ds pretty quickly.

Buntysoven · 08/11/2016 23:17

Cyrus is really cool especially with Cy as a nn.

originalmavis · 08/11/2016 18:20

We have an Aryan in the family.

I preferred DSs name to reflect his mums culture/family with such a foreign sounding (long, often misspelled) surname. I guess I believe that my family should have equal billing to reflect the childs background.

All our family love our sons name and even great grandpa chortled at the thought of going full Persian with the childs name. Wise man, baba joon. He was so proud of his great grandson.

BratFarrarsPony · 08/11/2016 18:13

Cyrus - very cool, I love it.

YoungGirlGrowingOld · 08/11/2016 18:12

That's on our shortlist too! Obviously I like it Grin

We have a Persian surname too but I think "Cy" or "Rus" work well as NN's if he wants to Anglicise.

"Arya" is the Persian name I believe (rather than Aryan). We considered this too but the connotations (and the fact that lots of our friends have used "Aria" for a girl) put us off.

I rather like Silas. My eccentric grandmother had a huge tabby called that and I've always had a soft spot for the name.

Will his surname be Iranian?

RebeccaWithTheGoodHair · 08/11/2016 11:35

It was my name if DD had turned out to be a boy. Love love love it

Raines100 · 08/11/2016 10:51

I think Cyrus is great

RiverTam · 08/11/2016 10:42

Yea, agree about Aryan, I know that in plenty of countries it's a perfectly acceptable name, but unfortunately given still-recent European history, I think it's a very bad idea. Which is a pity, as its a nice name.

Pluto30 · 08/11/2016 08:45

Billy Ray and Miley.

Agree that Aryan has seriously bad connotations. Avoid like the plague.

PoloZolo · 08/11/2016 08:07

I like it

CanandWill · 08/11/2016 08:06

I like it.

Joinourclub · 08/11/2016 08:02

I like it. And I like Cy for short.

DownWithThisSortaThing · 08/11/2016 07:57

Cyrus just makes me think of Miley, people would probably think you're a fan, which is no problem if you are I suppose!

Aryan has bad connotations - don't use that!

MrsCaecilius · 08/11/2016 07:51

Love it. Knew one in my teens, worked really well. Persian notations to me!

GinIsIn · 08/11/2016 07:47

I thought serial killer too - sorry! Blush but I do like the name.

MadameSilva · 08/11/2016 07:44

I think it's cool 😎

Sophronia · 07/11/2016 23:23

I like it a lot

CakeRattleandRoll · 07/11/2016 23:07

I like it. I know two - one 40 something, no Persian background, one early 30s, Persian background.

HurricaneSwallows · 07/11/2016 22:59

Billy Ray

I like pp suggestion of Aryan

Vixxfacee · 07/11/2016 22:58
