Not having a baby and I don't know anyone who's currently expecting, I was just curious on what people thought of the name Nancy.

I really like it, think it fits at all ages and is a classic.

Oh bunty - after Nancy was vetoed Ramona was my number one name. I've spent the last 10 months since DS2 was born trying to talk DP into trying for a 3rd so Ramona doesn't go to waste.

You clearly have excellent taste in names. Fist bump.

I don't like it much, tbh.

It's an old name, but I wouldn't call it a classic.

It was originally a nickname for Ann/Anne, which is a classic name.

Wouldn't really have occurred to me but I had a beautiful friend called Nancy and it really grew on me. We're just under 30 and I'd never met one my age.

Sob...I'm the one who wanted to name my baby Nancy Ramona but OH, who had been on board, denied all knowledge of agreeing and said he hated it. I obviously love it. The name that got away for me. Strong feminine and fun somehow. He did the same thing with Lois which I also love. Stoopid man better not change his mind on Arianne. Angry

Love it, would have used it if DP didn't have an aunt Nancy. (She's not the problem but "favouring" her over the rest of her bonkers sisters wouldn't have gone down well).

I love the name but then i'm biased as i'm called nancy! Smile

i had some rottern nicknames as a child but then most people do.

Yes Margot, unfortunately 'Nancy boy, ooh ya big nancy', is in my mind too. Thankfully, we don't seem to hear it any more.
Nancy is quite pretty.

It was used in a sneery way in the 70s and 80s ("nancy boy"), and I still have those awful associations in my head somehow. Not that it's awful for a man to be effeminate I hasten to add, more that it was said in a jeering and mocking way.

A family friend is called Nancy, and I'm planning to use it for a future daughter.
I also know a couple of young Nancy's.
I think it's a good solid name.

I have niece called Nancy. She's 15 now. I wasn't keen when she was named but it really grew on me.
