I have always loved this name, it would be shortened to Minty. Thoughts?

I'm not posh bashing! My posh friends are lovely but they are quite funny /fascinating if you are not of that world. The nickname ending in s thing was new to me.

Araminta is that type of name to many people. Best the op knows of its connotations so she can make an informed choice. My dd has a similarly posh name

livinglooney8 · 16/11/2016 19:21

Why the nasty posh bashing? Who wouldn't love to be a swishy Cressida nipping off to St Barts with Minty and Millie!!!!Grin

Araminta is an elegant name with lots of nn posibilties - should you want. Works well for adults & children.

Spam88 · 16/11/2016 11:28

Minty is Scouse slang for dirty...

BratFarrarsPony · 16/11/2016 11:02

oh yes Mints and Milla, and their friend Cress...(Cressida)

KERALA1 · 16/11/2016 09:47

Ultimate Sloane name. Her best friend will be called camilla (nickname "mills") and her nickname will be "mints". (Am a comp girl who somehow got in with the public school Sloaney set at university so know of what I speak!)

Sadik · 15/11/2016 22:01

I like it - it makes me think of the Gumdrop books if anyone remembers them (was Araminta another car? Or a person? I can't remember . . .).

NauseousKitty · 15/11/2016 21:46

Minty Arabella Samantha was the name of my luminous green My Little Pony in the 80s. Just can't shake that thought! Cute but not my cuppa.

TheWrathFromHighAtopTheThing · 15/11/2016 12:40

To me it's very 'I work part time for Daddy's PR firm in between trips to St Barts with Ptolemy.'

pestov · 15/11/2016 12:35

Goddaughter goes by Minta - her choice when she started school. Needs to go with simple middle names though

Minty sounds like a Sloane ranger boarding school gal with swishy blond hair, probably not the brightest spark. Works in a posh shop and lives in a central London flat paid for by Mummy and Daddy.

I get exactly the same imagine. It's in the Jolyon / Allegra category for me.

Catcheronthesly · 15/11/2016 10:25

I know a dog called Araminta/Minty. I'm not keen for a dog or a person to be honest (loved Moondial though)

VixenLupin · 14/11/2016 21:28

Yes, love it too because of the book/TV series.

BratFarrarsPony · 14/11/2016 21:26

I knew a pony called Minty as well..Grin

livinglooney8 · 14/11/2016 21:22

It's a beautiful name. Not for everyone though but that's no bad thing! It's always on those "what would you call your daughter" daydream threads. I know one.

Tarttlet · 14/11/2016 15:55

gratefully - yep, Minty is definitely a pony's name! (I knew a pony called Minty so I can't see it as a nn for a person...)

user1470686892 · 13/11/2016 18:41

I don't think it has a nice flow, find it bit of a mouthful.

Gruffalosfriend · 13/11/2016 17:59

Nashville, is there anything wrong or unfortunate about 'posh', whatever that means?

I just find Araminta beautiful!

MrsSchadenfreude · 13/11/2016 16:43

DD2 has a friend called Araminta. She goes by the name of "MInce."

CoolCarrie · 12/11/2016 22:08

There is a Ruth Rendell book (can't remember which one ) the main character in it has this name and it's very creepy (the book, not the name)
Lovely name go for it!

NashvilleQueen · 12/11/2016 22:03

It is properly posh. More so than any female name I can call to mind. But if you like it, go for it.

Gruffalosfriend · 12/11/2016 21:59

I really like Araminta - beautiful and classy.

SpunkyMummy · 12/11/2016 16:14

I like it :)

KlingybunFistelvase · 12/11/2016 15:39

I like it.
