Bear, Everest, Forrest or River?

Our little boy is nameless. We have to register him soon! I feel really sorry for him poor little guy does need a name! We just can't pick (absolutely love them all!) which is your favourite???

I'm also not a fan of Everest. Too specific.

Bear I think is cool but agree with lots of others that it's a little nicknamey.

I LOVE both Forrest and River, unfortunately they're both unpronouncable where I live otherwise I might have given them more serious consideration for our son. Of the two, my preference would be Forrest.

Not so keen on Everest because I immediately thought of the brand if windows. "Fit the best. Fit Everest"

But then I am a. old and b. in that trade.

Bear and River are OK... I tend to see River as a girl's name, despite River Phoenix. Bear is nice as a nickname for Edward. Everest... Not sure. I think double glazing too. Forest/Forrest I hate. If you want a nature name, could you consider Ash (as in the tree)? It's a name in its own right anyway - Hebrew, meaning happy.

I agree that Nevis (as in Ben Nevis) sounds pretty, but it is generally thought to have a rather nasty meaning. This is only Wikipedia, but it is repeating the standard opinion:

"" "Ben Nevis" is an Anglicisation of the Scottish Gaelic name "Beinn Nibheis". "Beinn" is the most common Gaelic word for "mountain", "Nibheis" is variously understood, though the word is commonly translated as "malicious" or "venomous".""

Wikipedia does also quote the sometimes suggested, but less likely meanings, which are 'the top of a man's head' or 'with head in the clouds'.

The word Nevis also occurs in different places, of course. In the Caribbean, the 'Nevis' in 'St Kitts and Nevis' is thought to be taken from a Spanish phrase meaning 'of the snows' (as in 'Our Lady of the Snows).

Everett is nice. Everest not so much.

If you like nature names, how about using the name of an explorer? Mawson, Edmund (Hillary), Abel (Tasman), James (Cook), Leif (Eriksson) etc.

Bear is too Bear Ghrylls.

The Forrest Gump contention is still relevant I think.

And Everest is too long.

There's River Phoenix of course but I don't think many young people will have heard of him and the only bad connotation is his sad demise 😟.

I've just asked my older children (all at high school and "traditionally" named) and they all like Forrest and Bear best.

My 14 year old doesn't see them as odd names, she said the most popular boy in her year is called Stone, he is "cool" 😊

Gilly, no he won't. Lots of children have more unusual names these days, other kids don't even notice, they've more often than not grown up together. It's adults that have preconceived ideas about names.

Bear is a lovely nickname. I like the idea of him being Edward (Teddy) Bear.

The other names have strong associations to me with Forrest Gump, River Phoenix and the mountain.
