Can we name our daughter Grace, or is our surname stopping us?

Our daughter arrived yesterday - a Halloween baby Wink we absolutely love the name Grace.

Our surname is Samuels-Grey (yes, we know it sounds like 'Samuel's grey')... We can't have a Grace Samuels-Grey, can we? Grin

RiverTam - not just MN... People in general! It's popular! I think it's pretty...

chocolateworshipper - is Scarlett not okay because you don't like it? That's fine! I just don't want to miss anything!

I can't understand why MN is so in thrall to the name Ivy, it's such an old fashioned, frumpy kind of name! 1950s down at heel housewives is what it reminds me of.

SerendipityPhenomenon · 01/11/2016 17:06

She would spend her life telling people her first name isn't Grey. To be honest, I think you need to let Grace go, or keep it for a middle name.

chocolateworshipper · 01/11/2016 17:04

Grace or Ivy absolutely fine (not Scarlett imo).

Congratulations Flowers

Italiangreyhound · 01/11/2016 17:04

Go for it.

Sounds lovely.

But I do hope this isn't your real surname, you should be more aware about posting things about your child in their name so could ask for thread to be pulled.

can't see anything wrong with that. Always loved the name Grace

SleepFreeZone · 01/11/2016 16:57

Doesn't offend me.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/11/2016 16:55

Grace is lovely with your surname.

willconcern · 01/11/2016 16:53

Ivy Samuels-Grey is lovely.

EdenFalls2016 · 01/11/2016 16:53

Yes, I think Scarlett Samuels-Grey sounds quite good! She suits Scarlett!

Is it weird for my heart to ache? At how much I love her? Grin being serious!

Grace Samuels-Grey would be a sweet-natured WWI nurse

Ivy Samuels-Grey would be a feisty bluestocking campaigning for women's suffrage.

Scarlett Samuels-Grey would be a musichall actress.

shovetheholly · 01/11/2016 16:52

Congratulations! And I think the name is gorgeous.

EdenFalls2016 · 01/11/2016 16:50

BikeRunSki - I don't think so... I don't think anyone really thinks if the child is graceful!

OP posts:
RiverTam · 01/11/2016 16:50

Oh, I love Scarlett (I'll admit to not actually being a fan of the name Grace). And I think Scarlett Samuels-Grey trips of the tongue better than Grace Samuels-Grey.

Comiconce · 01/11/2016 16:50

Cross post.. I can imagine Scarlet Grace Samuels-Grey. Has quite a ring to it Smile

BikeRunSki · 01/11/2016 16:49

It sounds fine, but Grace is a very hard name to live up to if you are not graceful.

Comiconce · 01/11/2016 16:49

Congratulations!! Flowers Both names sound fab to me.

I'd snuggle up to her and call her Grace and Ivy in turn to see which one she seems more like Grin. That's how dd1 got her name. And for dd2 it excluded the name we had chosen because it simply didn't seem to fit her Smile.

EdenFalls2016 · 01/11/2016 16:48

We were going to have Autumn as a middle name, but it all sounds very clunky Grin obviously not with Ivy!

Thanks for the suggestions Smile

We liked Scarlett... Can you imagine Scarlett Grace Samuels-Grey GrinGrinGrin

I like it. Grace is a beautiful, yet simple name which I think works really well as your surname is fairly long.

TheHiphopopotamus · 01/11/2016 16:47

Grace is a lovely name, but I don't think it works with your surname. The Grace and Grey sound too similar when said aloud, I think (I thought it was ok until I actually said it out loud to myself).

Ivy Samuels-Greyis gorgeous though!

Onenerfwarfrombreakdown · 01/11/2016 16:45

Since you've mentioned Ivy, OP, I think it's also very pretty and a bit less clunky/mouthful than Grace.

As she was born on Halloween you could try Eve? (All Hallows Eve) Grin

Feilin · 01/11/2016 16:45

Grace sounds better than ivy to me!

TheOptimisticButtercunt · 01/11/2016 16:43

Oh oh Ivy!! Ivy Samuels-Grey is fabulous! Grin

Puddington · 01/11/2016 16:42

I actually think it's quite nice and I agree with Chicky Grin
