My grandad was Teddy (Edward), so I'd pick that. There are LOADS of Freddies at our primary school now, must be the most popular boys name where we are.

Definitely prefer Teddy.

Teddy is a popular name now so it will be perfectly normal to be a big hairy bloke called Teddy in 20+ years time. I know a teenage Teddy and it suits him just fine.

Don't people (esp children) think Teddy Bear when they hear Teddy? It's cute for a toddler but I'm not sure I'd want to be called it as a teenager.

Definitely Teddy, I would put Ted on the birth certificate and have the nick name Teddy if you didn't want a more formal Ed name.

Either, but please use the full name on the BC. These are both "little boy" names, and no hulking teenager or young adult is going to thank you for giving them the diminutive form of a name with no get-out.

We have a teddy (on his birth cert too) love love love it on him and for some reason everyone tends to remember his name! He's 4!

Presumably Teddy or Freddy would call themselves Ted or Fred if they wanted a more 'grown-up' name, regardless of whether they had short or longer version on the birth certificate.

On that logic, I think I might choose Freddy, because I (somewhat) prefer Fred to Ted. But either are good solid names.

i like both edward/ theodore or frederick , with teddy/freddy nicknames
A teenager/ man would probably want a more serious name as he got older.
My son is ten and already sensitive to any nicknames in public. There's a William in his class who th kids call Willy and who often cries as a result !
I think boys are more self conscious
