How is Lettice pronounced? It was fashionable in Tudor times, one of Elizabeth I's ladies-in-waiting was called Lettys. I always assumed it was pronounced Le-teece, but on a tv programme they said it like the salad vegetable so for that reason, I'd probably avoid that one. I quite like Lettie though.

Oops. Well, I really like Lettice. But different people have different opinions. And their opinions are valid. I did ask, after all :)

Angelica reminds me of the Italian country side. It was actually the name of a woman that used to work on my grandmother's vineyard (terrible wine...).That's probably why the name Angelica is so rural imo.

What about Laetitia which is what I assume Lettice is originally a shortening of? It's not the name that would leap to mind for a baby girl but the meaning is lovely, and if it's for a favourite great aunt ... Thalia Laetitia?

I think of Lettice as a perfectly credible old school name. I also know a Letitia and she is always known as Letty. Both are pretty I think. I like all your short list. Is there a reason for the ?German spelling of Frederik as opposed to the usual Frederick? I think that might be a nuisance.

I love both boys names.

I also really like Lettice and Thalia, although not necessarily together. But I like names like Apple, Lemon, Bluebell etc. so may not be representative of 'normal' people.

Yes unfortunate outcome for a Colette, 16 years of teasing wasn't fun for her and watching your 6 year old little sister bawl her eyes out about it was brutal. Imagine what Lettice will get, I get you want a "unique" name for you ickle snowflake but be real and realise that that is that child/adults name!

I love them all except Thalia which makes me think of thallium.

Or would it be pronounced Tah-lia? In which case, I like that more than Angelica.

88 that is admittedly an unfortunate outcome... But it might actually be a better nn than the one my friends have for me.

Colette nn Lettie.... Lettuce/Lettuce leaf/wormy lettuce/wormy.... Usual kid teasing. Quite simple really, kids can be very clever.

But my sister's middle name is Henrietta... (she goes by Henrietta or Titta, so, I'd actually rather avoid this one)

Lettice sounds too much like Lettuce for my liking.

The boys' names are fine. I prefer the traditional English spelling of Frederick unless you have particular reasons to choose that spelling.

Angelica Lettice is two green foodstuffs. I prefer Lettice to Angelica which is so sweeeeet. Not really a fan of Thalia as I think people won't be sure how to say it - Thay-Lee-ah or Thaa-Lee-ah or Taaleeah or Taylya. But as a middle name it wouldn't matter.

Because you sound like you are naming a puppy, or new variety of vegetable. Your child will carry this name and have to live with it.

My friend has a similar name, when she introduced herself to new people she says, hi I'm 'leek'...yes my parents are idiots!

If children want to bully somebody they will always find a reason. I have an (apparently...) quirky name and was never bullied.

Slightly less awful. Well, that isn't too bad, is it :)

You can not name a child Lettice! My ds is Colette and has had enough lettuce jokes in her time, let alone being called Lettice. The rest are slightly less awful.

It's easy to get wrapped up in wacky names when forced with a timescale to make a decision. Our DD was lucky she was born a girl!!!
