Connotations when you hear the name Blake

DW and I are having an enjoyable struggle naming our DS2 (due December, so there's time yet!)

We have a difference of opinion on Blake. I'd be interested for people's input on what associations you have with the name: positive, negative, indifferent etc.

Naturally you will suggest alternatives. Those would be very welcome too.

If it was after anyone it was Zack de la Rocha. We liked 'rock star' names. I wanted Max for Max Cavellera but it didn't go with our surname.

Our DS1 is Logan, when we were expecting DS2 we tried to find a name that matched the 'cool and Scottish' theme but struggled to find one we liked.

We ended up matching the 'US/Aus surfer/rock star' vibe with a Zach.

Finn, Flynn and Max were also on the list.

Fair enough I'd have liked Leith for one of my DC (it has Arab roots too - I think meaning lion) but it was not to be! Maybe for our hypothetical third child.....

Contessa, we are not in Scotland, so while on the one hand your suggestion could work, on the other: my Dad's from Leith - it's hardcore Trainspotting country, so if we're talking connotations, they don't get much grimmer! Given our surname, I might as well call the child Francis and blight his life for ever more.

That's a matter of opinion (I'm not keen on either of them), but there are lots of other names that are neither Blake nor Jack. It would take too long to list them all.

I think of a boy we know in the neighbourhood called Blake - he's about 11 years old. Nice lad.
He's got a sister called Hazel. Both quite unusual these days - got to be better than another boring Jack.

Op I have a boy called Keir.

It s a Scottish name (we're not Scottish we just liked it!), I think it sounds cool and passes the bin man or barrister test!

We also have a boy called Finn and Logan was on our list too...

DoAndroids, our surname requires spelling all the time, so sadly, nice a name as Ruaraidh is, it's going to have to remain off the table, as getting the child to spell out his first name and surname every day of his life will get pretty wearing for him I'd imagine!

Joinourclub and Scorbus - what are the chances you were teaching he same kid?

Thanks for all the input team - I'll have to google Dynasty, all I knew about it was Joan Collins was in it!

I'm a New Zealander so I automatically think of Sir Peter Blake (a very successful sailor who was sadly held captive and shot in Brazil) which is pretty good connotation for me.

Also Blake from Home and Away.

It's a nice name and goes extremely well with Logan.
