George or Gregory?

Love George but it's definitely got a lot more popular recently and am not so keen on the royal connection. Other contender is Gregory, nn Greg which I wasn't sure about at first but have become pretty fond of. Hardly seems to be used with children at the moment, is there a reason for this that I'm overlooking?!

Gregory is nice, hate Greg though.

George is ok.

musicinspring1 · 28/10/2016 08:24

Gregory. I have a complete girly crush on Greg James which may sway my opinion!Grin

PunkAssMoFo · 28/10/2016 08:21

Gregory.
It's fab and I'm bored of George.

Greedysquirrels · 28/10/2016 08:02

mrsnec what kind of comments have you had about the name? We were also thinking that going with a short, one-syllable modern middle name would help it sound less old fashioned. Tempted by Jack or James (although is it weird because of the Radio 1 DJ Greg James?)

Much prefer George.

I would like to add I think Gregory has a nicer meaning than George. I have no idea why its not more popular. We got it from watching House while I was pg! and it fit my name criteria.

DramaAlpaca · 27/10/2016 22:35

I like Gregory or Gregor a lot. I much prefer them to George.

Much prefer George

I have an 8 month old Gregory. I also love George but couldn't use it.

Now he's here he's definately Greg. We have had comments but don't care.

His sister also has a retro name. I love the fact that their names are in the same genre as ours.

Both have very short more modern middle names though.

AuntieStella · 27/10/2016 20:43

I prefer Gregor to Gregory.

Also like George

Chinlo · 27/10/2016 20:40

I think Gregory is just a bit dated. It reminds me of some posh sap from the 80s or 90s.

I'm not a fan of George either though, so feel free to ignore me.

Greedysquirrels · 27/10/2016 20:27

Encouraging, thanks ladies. Feeling more confident about the less popular G option already! Smile

Heh, my DP is George and my DB is Gregor. So obviously I like both.

JosephineMaynard · 27/10/2016 20:22

I love Gregory.

George is ok, no strong feelings on it either way.

BikeRunSki · 27/10/2016 20:19

I love Gregory.
Have an irrational dislike of George.

Pluto30 · 27/10/2016 20:17

I like both.

George is more popular. I think Gregory "had its moment" but is ready for a comeback now. It always makes me think of Gregory Peck, which is an awesome association.

Dont like,sorry.
