Late night pondering.... Casper or Caspar? Which spelling? Is it the worse the name ever? Is it "posh"? Is it popular? Do you know any?

I like Cassius and Cassian but feel they are too out there for me and complicated pronunciations!

I like Cass. But not a name!! Any advice?

I love it, I'm due number 3 soon and its on our boys shortlist. I am very much in favour of the spelling Caspar, as it seems to be the original. Casper is the spelling for the friendly ghost. Caspar was one of the three wise men so good if you are due near Christmas!

I had it for if my dd1 was a boy 9 years ago, then with number 2 (who was a girl anyway) I didn't consider it because I thought it had got too popular, but I've checked statistics and realised it's not anywhere near as popular as I thought which is good. Casper is a more popular spelling though, even if not original.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/10/2016 15:17

I love it. I'd spell it Casper

Mishaps · 28/10/2016 17:41

Sorry, but I think it is a truly horrid name and I would not saddle a child of mine with it.

TooTweeOrNotTooTwee · 28/10/2016 17:38

Love Casper. If there ever is a DS2, it will be his name!

WeArePregnant11 · 28/10/2016 17:35

Caspar! :) it's cute, easy to spell and not super common.

Castor is awesome... however, not in the U.K. Or any English speaking country...

CaroleService · 28/10/2016 17:33

Caspar was one of the Three Kings of Christmas Carol fame, iirc

(with Melchior and Balthazar)

soundsystem · 28/10/2016 17:32

CyrilSneer Our DS is likely to arrive around epiphany so I thought it was a nice seasonal but not too obvious choice. I've been met with blank looks when I mentioned this (DH: what do friendly ghosts have to do with Christmas?).

I'm glad someone knows what I'm on about Grin

soundsystem · 28/10/2016 17:24

I love, love, love Caspar. It's on our shortlist. I'd spell it with and "a" so it's not the same as the friendly ghost.

Boredenough2bhere · 28/10/2016 17:21

I like it but prefer Jasper better.

MadameDePomPom · 28/10/2016 12:18

Not Castor. People will look at you blankly and say 'what? like the oil?'

I like Caspar, reminds me of sexy Kaspar from Borgen.

stonygreysoil · 28/10/2016 09:29

Casper is a nice name. Unless you are French, the second "a" would be a bit unnecessary.

As someone above said, Castor is a wonderful historic option. Very similar background to Cassius in this day and age.

What about Cashel ? [c.f Daniel Day Lewis]

8DaysAWeek · 28/10/2016 09:25

Casper has always been my favourite boys name since I was wee. OH categorically said no due to the friendly ghost reference. I must go back to the drawing board with Caspar if we ever have a second!!

Loafingaround · 27/10/2016 14:04

Know no Caspar's and think its a fab name and definitely different. I know none. Definitely more on the posh than chav side.

minipie · 27/10/2016 12:44

I like it and think it should be Caspar (Casper always looks wrong to me/friendly ghost association)

MrsCaecilius · 27/10/2016 12:42

Love it. Caspar. I know one in his late 30s, occasionally went by 'Caz'. Great name and underused!

CyrilSneer30 · 27/10/2016 10:09

Love Caspar - fairly certain this will be DS2's middle name who is due end of December. Caspar is widely accepted as the name of one of the three Magi (we're Catholic and it's likely DS2 will be born around their feast day), therefore we chose it over the Casper spelling Smile

RattieOfCatan · 27/10/2016 09:51

I love love love Caspar, it's been vetoed on my list though :( I like Cassius and Cassian too, and adore Caspian, as others have suggested! (That one has also been vetoed for me!)

Caspar has Persian links as well (which is why it was on my list).

UnicornPee · 27/10/2016 09:42

Casper seems to be a popular polish name in my kids schools.
It just makes me think of a cartoon ghost rather than a boys name.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 27/10/2016 08:44

Caspar.

Mrswinkler · 27/10/2016 07:17

Friendly ghost too!

AmberEars · 27/10/2016 06:53

I know one Casper (with an e), he is 3yo.

MotherDuckSaid · 27/10/2016 06:48

There r 4 Casper's in my children's school, they r all Lithuanian or polish 😊

seagulllady · 27/10/2016 01:08

Makes me think of the friendly ghost. Sorry. Showing my age there.

Nice enough name otherwise and if you love it, I'd go for it.

YouHadMeAtCake · 27/10/2016 01:05

A lovely name, one I had picked many years ago for one of my DC. Spelled Caspar though.

BarInSpace · 27/10/2016 01:02

I like it, with the Caspar spelling.
