Freya or Skylar?

We found out we're having a girl this week :) Which is good because the only boys name we liked I said the same as the cat! Lol

For years I've liked Skylar, but OH has gone off it. My mum suggested Freya and he really likes it (I think because it sounds a bit Norse and Vikingy!) and actually I do too.

The problem is I teach and have taught 2 Freyas so I can't help but think of them. I'm sure if we went with it I would soon forget them though.

Any thoughts?

To be honest unless it's quite an obscure name, the first image will be of a child I've taught. Once it belongs to my own daughter it'll be entirely different

Working in a school environment, I understand what you mean - the longer you teach, the pick of names can gradually decrease.

I have a 9 year old Skylar. It was very unusual when she was born, she was one of 30 born that year I think. Now there seem to be several chavvy Skyla's where I live. Without he R. I've heard it screamed twice locally by very rough smoking sweary mums and it breaks my heart! Really gone off it now.

Having said that I love the mythology side of Freya but that is too popular for me to like.

Freyja is the traditional Norse spelling, and i think its even prettier like tht.. Maybe would appeal to ur OH and make the name more your own (remind u less of the girls u teach) 😊
Tbh I'm really not a fan of Skylar, its a bit hippy for me! 😅

The trouble with Freya is that it is very popular at the moment, think it's in the top 20 names? So if you also like Skylar (are you English or Scottish, i.e. will you pronounce that 'r' at the end?) then presumably you like names that are a bit more unusual.

We liked Freya but didn't want to use such a popular name, alternatives we thought about were: Frida, Fritha, Sigrid, Greta, Gudrun, Elsa.

Freya. It is very popular where I live though.

I do like the suggestion of Skye above, I personally prefer that to Freya or Skylar.

I too think truncated Skylark for Skylar, even typing it looks and sounds weird to me.

Wasn't Skylar the really evil mutant on that American TV series where they could fly/shape shift or whatever, but his talent was that he sucked their talent out, killing them. I'd run for the hills on Skylar, and go for Freya, bra or not.

Freya by miles, although it is a brand of bra which I like. I assume the bras were named after the name though, as all their bras have names like Pollyanna and Eleanor.

Freya is lovely

I know Skylar is a proper name but (and this is probably just me) looks like a truncated skylark, or else sounds like some sort of brand name for a plastic (mylar, kevlar... yeah, probably just me)
