Gretchen?

Gretchen? Or is it just my hormones!

I like Greta but may be too short with our surname.

I think I am hitting panic mode now as nothing seems quite right or if it is we can't agree.

I'm still fond of Tabitha but DH wrinkles his nose

I like Fleur but that got a resounding no on here

I like it. "Chen" is added to words in German to make them sound cute, so to me it is an even cuter name than Greta. I love alliterative names and Gretchen Grey is awesome.

Northanter · 21/10/2016 12:15

I think Gretchen just looks ugly to English eyes, because of the retch, wretch association.

Though it is pronounced more with a soft "sh" sound in the middle, rather than a hard "ch". It doesn't sound harsh, imo.

My German friend says it more like "great - sh'nn"

Personally, I prefer Greta though.

Tokelau · 21/10/2016 11:59

I prefer Greta, but I don't like either name with Grey, sorry.
Fleur Grey is lovely. I love Tabitha too.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 21/10/2016 11:51

Gretchen would be a difficult name to have in an English speaking country.

Tabitha is a beautiful name, always loved it.

Pluto30 · 21/10/2016 11:06

Greta Grey works, I think.

It's got a Greta Garbo vibe.

The more I look at Gretchen the more I think it's kind of cute. I actually quite like it.

Buntysoven · 21/10/2016 00:23

Gretchen sounds itchy to me. Not overly keen on any of the Gr names tbh.

MarriedinMaui · 20/10/2016 22:48

How about Flora?

MotherDuckSaid · 20/10/2016 22:44

What about*

MotherDuckSaid · 20/10/2016 22:43

Gretchen sounds a lot like retching wen said out loud Imo , sorry 😆

MotherDuckSaid · 20/10/2016 22:41

Love Greta, what a long middle name to lengthen it with ur surname 😊

SueTrinder · 20/10/2016 21:55

I like Gretchen and the fact that some people find it harsh is one of the reasons why I like it. I'm not a fan of all the little girl names that are popular at the moment.

It makes me think of Gretchen Goes to Nebraska but that's a pretty obscure reference so I wouldn't worry about it.

Pluto30 · 20/10/2016 21:09

Greta > Gretel > Gretchen

I think Gretchen is the harshest of the three.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 20/10/2016 20:51

Came in to mention Greta as an alternative I don't like Gretchen sorry.

BennyTheBall · 20/10/2016 20:46

It is a very ugly name, imo. Looks ugly and sounds ugly too.

Nelleflowerpot · 20/10/2016 20:44

I find it rather ugly to be honest.
But how about Margaret then you could use Greta, Margot, Maggy etc???

ThursdayLastWeek · 20/10/2016 20:38

I love Gretchen, and Greta.

Normandy144 · 20/10/2016 20:37

Greta is pretty. Gretchen is kind of in the Edith/Maud/Gertrude camp for me, just find them very drudgy old lady names. What's the surname? Nothing wrong with Fleur. What about Freya?

Chinlo · 20/10/2016 20:30

Greta is nice but Gretchen just sounds horrible to me!

Retchin' Gretchen

Grech the Wretch

HoggleIsMyFriend · 20/10/2016 20:28

For some reason Imogen springs to mind when I think of the name Gretchen. Imogen is much prettier.

Sophronia · 20/10/2016 20:26

Greta is nice but not keen on Gretchen

Squtternutbosch · 20/10/2016 19:10

I think Gretchen is really cute, I prefer it to Greta.

Tabitha is a cat's name though...
