Is Oscar becoming too popular?

How many Oscars under 5 do you know and where are you? Sorry, copying the Jude thread here!!! Thank you all in advance!

I remember a schoolmate using it in around 2000 (she posted on Friends Reunited, so a while ago!). Then, there seemed to be a flurry of Oscars. However, I don't know any recent babies with that name (the 2015 stats don't bear me out though, so maybe it is a regional thing).

I love it and have done for years. I don't know any Oscars and was really suprised when we started ttc this year to find out is so common!

I have a 6 year old Oscar, and there are a few around.

Not too many but enough that we seem to bump into them.

I didn't pick the name to be original just cos I loved it so not too bothered, but it is more common than I realised.

I had no idea how popular it was until I went to a baby group with my Oscar and found there was another boy of similar age with the same name. There are also two at his nursery. I also bumped into a pre-teen Oscar at the supermarket the other day. Perhaps I should have done my research!!

Though tbh for us it's a family name (DH's grandad) and I tend to call him Ozzy anyway.

East Yorkshire here.

I know seven under 5 Oscars. There are three in my son's reception class, two in Year 1, one girl in his class has a two year old brother named Oscar and my friend has a one year old Oscar. My brother-in-law's dog is also called Oscar. Very popular here!

I am closely related to a 17 yr old Oscar. Know another 17 yr old & a 16 yr old. It's a timeless name, popular in lots of languages (French, Spanish, Polish, Swedish, German). Benjamin, Harry & Jack were v popular then.

I don't know any little Oscars (N. Yorks but family and friends mostly in W. Yorks.). I do know lots of little Olivers though.

Ds has a very traditional (some would say boring) and constantly popular name. I don't care, I still love it!

i think its meant to be a popular name, i know probably about 6 under 5,
but IMO its maybe better to have a popular name (?) than to have a name so 'outlandish' they'd b th only one in the whole school with it and they'd hate it ! :)

I have an Oscar living on either side of us, one is 4 years and the other is about 2. The scruffy lady over the road had just given birth and I believe that he's Oscar too!
I like it but it's very popular.

It has become quite trendy over the past 10 years and will probably sound dated as it falls out of favour. I'd choose a more tieless name personally.

Depends what people think of as boring - Sophronia, do you think William, James and Thomas are boring? Or are you thinking its boring in a sort of Alfie, Archie, Jack way?
