Just Grey?

What do you think about the name Grey on its own? Would you spell it Grey or Gray? I'm not keen on the full versions e.g Graham, does Grey works as a standalone name? I love it but I don't want to let my hormones make a silly decision!

I used to like Gray, but I would not choose it now. And I think Grayson is awful (although I love Grayson Perry).

Not keen.

Gray as a colour has rather boring connotations.

And I can never remember whether I'm supposed to spell it Grey or Gray. I can't imagine finding it any easier to keep that straight if it was being used as a first name.

Grayson is the name (surname) of a school bully in a TV show - can't remember which one, but it would put me off.

I prefer Graham to Grey/Gray, and Graham isn't an inspiring name!

Surely nobody in 2016 would name a baby Graham?!

I don't like it sorry, its an insipid colour & an insipid name. Grayson sounds to me like the alter ego to a Marvel superhero. Its a middle name at best.

If you forced me to name a child after a colour I'd go with Indigo.

I'd go with Gray rather than Grey if I had to. Probably Grayson on birth certificate

The younger kid in Jurassic World is called Grey/Gray. It's very American sounding as a name. It sounds a bit incomplete imo, when I hear it I think 'grey what?'.

I know a Gray, in his 40's, I'd never considered it being short for anything tbh, I assumed it was his real ane. I also had to check on fb to how he's spells it, lol

Actually, I'm usually traditional in my name choices but I really like it.

I like it, but prefer it for a middle name. I would spell it Grey Smile

If you are really set in it, I'd personally give the child a longer version Graeme/Graham/Grayson so he'd have options.

And (unfortunately) I don't think the fifty shades association is going anywhere for a while.

It's got negative connotations - if you describe someone as "a bit grey" everyone knows what you mean and it's not a compliment. I wouldn't.

Been on my boys list forever but perhaps I'd spell as Gray.

Don't be concerned with the narrow mindedness of an association with a book. You could do that with every single name out there.

Calling your child a name from a sex book is risking derision. Maybe not from people at secondary school, maybe from other parents. Test it out on a Few people and see what they say .

It's a surname name which is one negative.

And it's an adjective/colour, so that's another.

You could use Wolf as a middle name, for a native American vibe.
