The closest I think is ok is Harrison Porter and that's still a bit iffy, especially if he's NNed Harry

No. And it doesn't make any difference if the official name is Henry if you will call him Harry.

Even if the name is said in an accent that pronounces Porter differently to Potter he'll still be in for constant 'ha ha, I thought you said Harry Potter' Imagine how annoying that would get?

Uh, no... My DH's Mum is Scottish (we don't see her) but when I did meet her, her Rs sounded like Ls... It wasn't a criticism. I'm English and definitely pronounce my are so does everyone else around me Grin

Not at all sure why you'd assume that. As PP said, we pronouce our Rs. We you thinking of the English, who generally don't?

I woudn't recommend using the name in any accent, unless you embrace the Potter connection.

Daft as it sounds, Harrison Porter, sound nothing like Harry Potter.

I think Hal Porter is supercool!

Also don't see the problem with Henry Porter. It doesn't sound that much like Harry Potter in my accent.

That said, I definitely wouldn't use Harry as a nn, which maybe isn't what you want to hear. All the boys with Harry as a nn where I live seem to have Harris or Harrison as a long name anyway. I think a lot of people have forgotten that Harry is a nn for Henry and think of Harry and Henry as different names.

Henry Porter to me sounds like somebody who wanted Harry but knew it sounded too much like Harry Potter. The name equivalent of getting fake clothes from a market... look at my lovely Prado bag!!
