Katy or Katie?

Hi everyone,

I'm new here!

We have decided on Katy/Katie for our baby girl.

Which spelling? I think I prefer Katie, DH prefers Katy... Blush

I know a Katy (her actual name). She prefers to be called Kate.

There are so many Kates / Katies / whatever in my generation (30s-40s)! It surprises me that people still want to use the name...

Can you change middle name so it's not one syllable also?

I.e. If you like Katy Rose, could you use Kate Rosa

Personally, I really dislike Katherine (sorry!) and I think Kate/Katy/Katie is a known name in its own right (even if it isn't on MN)

If I was going to have a Katie I would put Katherine on the birth certificate personally.

Much prefer it. Katie looks like a nickname, and also looks more cutesy. Katy looks streamlined and classic. (To me.)

However, seeing as you're asking about Katy/Katie... I think I'd go with Katie.

My sis is Katy (short for Catherine) so I prefer that one! Incidentally she's always found it annoying to have two different initials so if you're thinking of going for a longer name I would choose Katherine

Katie - I may be a little bias though! I'm actually Catherine but was never a Cathy or Cath. As I've got older, I've become Kate. Katy does look it should be pronounced 'catty'.

Katie, to me, is a short form of Catherine (or any of the other versions). Katy is more of a standalone name.

My name is Kate, only ever all it when I was in trouble! Otherwise I was Katie, but I still prefer the spelling Katy!

Well I'm a Katie so I say that one, the y ending just looks so wrong to me
However, same as a PP, now that I'm a grown up I do feel like I've got a child's name
I tend to introduce myself as Kate now but obviously family and friends they've known me a while call me Katie so it doesn't really work
