What do you think of Margery? According to the statistics it's virtually extinct unless I'm spelling it wrong. I really love Maggie and Maddie but DH will not agree to Madeleline because of the McConnell.

Margery is a traditional English spelling (like Margery Kempe, the 14th-15th century writer).

I love both Margery and Marjorie. I had a very similar thread on here a couple of years ago when pregnant with DD and the response was fairly negative. I still like it though!

(DD is not called Margery, because in the end DH didn't like it enough, and we went with something else)

It's a pity, because it's a pretty name if you can forget that association.

You c an spell it Margery or Marjorie. I like it despite the margerine association, but not keen on marj or Marjie as shorts.

According to google it's derived from Margaret anyway which is the usual name for NN Maggie (and also gives you Meg which is gorgeous for a little girl)..

Oh shit yes, the proper spelling is Marjorie! I think I was thinking of Marge Simpson, hence Margery. I even Googled it to check the spelling

Ps - Madeleine is much nicer and if I was ever introduced to a baby Madeleine I really wouldn't think of Madeleine Mccann.

If you like Maddie how about Madison?

I've only seen it spelled Marjorie. I think it's charming and much under-used of late.

I think the proper spelling is Margery. Forme it's not a very aesthetically pleasing name. It has a dowdy feel about it (and my DD has an "old lady" name so I'm not against retro names at all). Also it makes me think of margarine.

I would think you had inadvertently spelled Margaret wrongly if you used the version in the thread title.

You've spelt it several ways - the accepted versions are Margery and Marjorie, I think. I have one of those as a middle name (after my grandmother) and always hated it. Too similar to margarine.

Margerie is also the eldest known relation in Dh's family tree so it's not a tribute to the Tyrells haha
