Is Louisa dated or boring?

I strongly dislike the band Louise (apologies to any Louises out there!) but Louisa is definitely growing on me and v pretty. Is it a bit dated? Dull? Haven't heard of any little Louisas around here. I do seem to gravitate to 80s/90s kind of names!

Hmmm I think the possibility of it being confused for Louise a lot, as the Louisa upthread has experienced, is enough to put me off 😄 It is a pretty name though. Also if DC2 is a boy he'll probably be Lucas so then Louisa would be out for subsequent kids!

I love it. It was in my top 2 but ended up using it as a middle name. Delivery suite Midwife's name was the other name on the final list & it seemed like a sign.
Turns out I chose a top 10 name so poor Dd2 is going to be 1 of 5 in the class etc instead of a timeless beautiful currently relatively rare name.

I think it's lovely too, but a lot of people with names ending in 'a' are called the 'e' version. I have one of them!

Luisa is the Italian version of Louisa

It's also very common (it and Luiza) in nearly all Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries. It's probably different looking enough to help reduce the "Louise" mistakes too.

I love Louisa! And I also don't like Louise. I don't think it's dated - it may not be common but atm there are lots of Olivia's, Ava's, Amelia's etc and I think they're all very similar to Louisa and work well.

Luisa is the Italian version of Louisa. And I can also vouch for the fact that even if the baptismal name is Louisa, you will usually be called Louise by lazy, careless people. I love L.M. Alcott's books, by the way!

Louise reminds me of school - in the 70s and 80s. A bit dated like Sarah, Clare, Nicola (that's about 7 of my class at secondary) type names. Nothing wrong with them, but like Gary, Andrew and Stephen - maybe not due for a revival.

Louisa however, is much nicer.

I am a Louisa.
Just to warn anyone thinking of using it, they WILL have a lifetime of being called Louise because of people mishearing or being stupid. And strong possibility that it will happen through emails, letters, texts etc too even if you bold and capitalise the a.

We just had this discussion yesterday - I like Luisa but not Louisa! I think taking away the O makes it a bit more modern. I feel that doesn't really make any sense but I can't explain why I like one and not the other

I like it, though if anything I think we might be starting to reach peak "girls names ending in A". I think they will be the generational marker for our children

I love Louisa. Unfortunately DH has a slightly nutty cousin with this name, so DD was called something else. She would have been otherwise, but the cousin is the kind of woman who'd think we'd named DD after her and then invade our lives forever.

I do prefer it to Louise, that's for sure.

If you want to make it a bit more distinct, you could go for the more "latin" form of Luisa or Luiza.
