Arlo?

We're having a boy, and basically the only name I really like is Arlo.

Problem is, our puppy is called Mylo...

Is it too weird that they're similar? Should we change our pups name slightly?

No, it's fine unless your surname is Finlo or Winlow or something. I like Arlo.

I like Arlo, and I don't think it's a problem with puppy's name.
Do you know it's the name of the dinosaur in the film The Good Dinosaur? Your DS may think this is pretty cool when he's old enough to watch it

I think they are too close and would work on changing the dog's name now. It will help stop both the dog and the baby/toddler getting mixed up when you are telling Arlo/Mylo to stop doing that. Your dog needs a distinct sound that it recognises clearly as requiring his attention to turn to you - this is hugely important for safety once you add a small child into the mix. So dog should become Miley or Midas or whatever as soon as possible to be quite clearly distinct from Arlo.

Thanks all! That's reassured me.

IDreamOfPeace and Onenerfwar no haven't seen it, but I'll need to watch it if we decide on Arlo!

Just need to work on DH as he's currently deliberating about the name... Grin

I'd never heard the name Arlo until this year and already know three babies called it, so I suspect it might turn out to be quite popular.

I know two born in the last two years, it is having a sudden boom. You could also watch Arlo Gibbons in Justified, I suspect that's where a lot of people first heard the name - although its definitely not a child-friendly show, so you won't get playground references to it

I don't think it's a problem with the dog at all. If you like it go for it. But I must warn you just in case you hadn't realised that it's probably had the fastest rise in popularity over the last few years in the name stats. It's gone from 5730 to 102 in a very short space of time. I loved it when pregnant with my dd who is 9, was aware it was picking up hugely in popularity and a bit faddy when pregnant with my second (who also turned out to be a girl) and now I'm pregnant again I've scratched it off the list for becoming the next Noah. It might not bother you, to be so popular, it is a lovely name (so is Noah) and I can see why it's risen so much but it's one of those names that rises so fast a lot of people don't realise how popular it has become.
