I'd really like to name my baby due in 4 weeks Baxter.

I had an old friend who passed away a few years ago, and was like a grandad to me. Sadly he never had any grandchildren and would have loved them. I would like to have him remembered in this way.

The gentleman in question's surname was Baxter. He was a very cool man who had dragged himself up from poor East End beginnings to become very senior in his profession but would patiently sit and watch us little girls sing a new song or do a dance Grin

Can't use his first name, as a) he hated it as it was misspelled by his dad when registering him, and b) it doesnt work at all with our surname.

However I know most people meeting our little boy wouldnt know all of this and would just know him as Baxter. Is it too unusual?

Ian Dury's son is Baxter I think so no, not a dog's name.

I like it. It's different but not weird. It doesn't make me think of soup or dogs at all. Plus I'm sure only medical people would make a connection with bleeping machines or similar. The reason for the name is lovely too. Baxter Jackson XXX is a bit of a mouthful but how often will the full name be spoken anyway? As long as Baxter flows nicely with your surname i'd go for it.

I like it, it's cool. I'm not sure you can have Baxter and Jackson though, overdoing it?

It's a dogs name... a lot of names are dogs and cats names as well. Are you not going to call your daughter Betty because there is a cat called Betty? Lol

It's a soup.... Well Victoria Secrets is lingerie and Octavia is a car. So don't use Victoria and Octavia anymore either?

I think Baxter is lovely. Don't listen to the nonsense.

It has to be a middle name, if anything.

But I know a dog called Baxter, so that makes it hard for me to separate it.

I think there used to be a comic strip or cartoon about a dog called Baxter. He was a sausage dog. It also reminds me of the bald teacher with a beard in early Grange Hill. He was Mr Baxter and not very likable.

Aqua - yes I did point out on my post it doesn't work. It's just that max is on our list of potential first names, clearly we would have to go with another middle name.

Dalmatian - fair enough for similar reasons I could never call my chile Ben or Jerry Grin

I think your reasons are lovely. Sorry though I'm also not a big fan. It mostly makes me think of dogs called Baxter.
It's not really important though what others associate the name with, just important that you and your DH both like it and that it has that nice sentimental meaning behind it is lovely.
It would be good as a middle name, though I'm not sure about Jackson Baxter as that might be quite hard to say. Also if you had two middle names ( Name Baxter Jackson name) that's pretty long.

Just go with what you think is right OP and don't let others put you off a name you like!

Baxter is a company that supply drug infusion pumps in the Hospital where I work, they beep constantly for no fucking reason and seem to go mental at 4 am when your poor patient is trying to sleep
