Peregrine is very nice Hunter, and Leonidas

dotdotdotmustdash · 25/09/2016 20:20

How about Titus? I had a Titus in my class at Primary.

Garthmarenghi · 25/09/2016 20:08

Octavius Maximus. Excellent names.

Only1scoop · 25/09/2016 20:06

Yes me too
The real parents of Octavius wouldn't dream of asking.

chinlo · 25/09/2016 19:58

Egbert

Yeah, this could well be a wind-up actually.

Joinourclub · 25/09/2016 19:57

Egbert? Now I know you're joking!

squoosh · 25/09/2016 19:52

That was Fenton Confused. That clip still makes me laugh.

Confusednotcom · 25/09/2016 19:50

I'd be a bit Confused if my dc dated an Octavius...
It reminds me of the viral clip of the 50 or so yr old man calling his Labrador to him, that was big last year. Can't remember the dogs name but Octavius would have worked well.

MrsJoeyMaynard · 25/09/2016 19:46

That's similar to my feelings about it Pandas.

I was keen on Constantine - lovely name - but yeah, same problem with potential reactions. Plus DH vetoed it, with comments similar to some of the negative ones Octavius has been getting on this thread.

Confusednotcom · 25/09/2016 19:45

I'd be a bit Confused if my dc dates an Octavius one day.

Compared to Peregrine and Egbert, Octavius is a fantastic name!

OP, it's clearly not a popular name. There's not much point arguing that. I mean, you asked for opinions, those are the opinions! Either ignore them and name your son Octavius, or choose something else if it bothers you.

PandasRock · 25/09/2016 19:41

I love the name.

BUT

it's one of those 'wish I could use it but I really cant' names, imo.

Other names we considered (Peregrine was also on H's list):

Bertram
Casimir
Caspian

All in a similar category for me - fabulous names, but just not ones I could use (mostly due to potential reactions)

MrsJoeyMaynard · 25/09/2016 19:37

I like Octavius best out of the names you've mentioned.

But it might be a hard name to carry off.

squoosh · 25/09/2016 19:36

I don't think a three week old much cares whether it has a name or not!

HunterIs · 25/09/2016 19:34

Loads of people don't name their child within the first few weeks, that's why you have 6! No need to be funny about it

junebirthdaygirl · 25/09/2016 19:29

Is. Is here since September 8 th and has had no name since then, poor child?

MrsBungle · 25/09/2016 18:45

I don't think it's horrendous. It's a very big name for a person to pull off though. As others have said, it's better than a lot of the god-awful names suggested on this board! Peregrine is horrendous though!

teablanket · 25/09/2016 18:39

I actually really like it, OP.

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 25/09/2016 18:28

All the 'upper class' people I know have absolutely bog standard traditional names.

Uricon · 25/09/2016 18:26

Not for anyone born since 410 AD

AntiHop · 25/09/2016 18:23

No. It sounds like a baddy from a film. Ditto peregrine. I also agree that you're winding us up.

We know an Octavius.

Gets quite a lot of grief at school about his name.

foodiefil · 25/09/2016 18:19

If your social background will involve him going to a very poshe, very expensive boarding school then COOL! Go for it.

If he'll go to the local primary try and strike the balance between what you like and what won't mean he has the piss taken out of him for. Kids are cruel.

LolaStarr · 25/09/2016 18:19

Not my cup of tea at all. I've seen way, way worse names suggested on here though!
