We really like it would like to know what other people think

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lizzieoak · 21/09/2016 19:37

Not a fan of last names as first names, it always sounds a bit naff to me. Do you like the Mur sound? How about Miranda then Mur for short?

Chottie · 21/09/2016 19:35

Please no.

Isn't there also a type of potato called Murphy?

Houseconfusion · 21/09/2016 19:34

Two dogs
1 cat

Whoooodat · 21/09/2016 19:33

Really bad but marginally better than Hector. Hector?!! For a real baby or child or man?

SpeckledyBanana · 21/09/2016 19:31

It's a surname.

Donatellalymanmoss · 21/09/2016 19:28

I associate it with male dogs, it seems like an odd choice for a girls name.

Hastalapasta · 21/09/2016 19:27

Just named our kitten Murphy after the stout! (it suits him btw)Smile

ShowOfHands · 21/09/2016 19:24

A friend has a Murfee.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 21/09/2016 19:20

Not Murphy for a girl, but Hector is good !

MrsCaecilius · 21/09/2016 18:45

Surname, beer, horse.

Hector is great though!

CancellyMcChequeface · 21/09/2016 18:05

Definitely not.

It's a surname. It's not even, to my mind, a particularly nice-sounding surname. I wouldn't recommend it for a boy, and for a girl it's terrible.

If you really love it, put it in the middle, and give her an actual first name as a first name.

AmeliaJack · 21/09/2016 17:35

Hector is an excellent name though.

Stilldreamingofsun · 21/09/2016 17:26

Jeez- relax! People are so mean for no reason! I think it's unique and original. Much more interesting than the thousands of Amelie's and Ava's! It sounds like a cheeky name Grin

PotteringAlong · 21/09/2016 17:26

Love Hector!

Nellyphants · 21/09/2016 17:23

Nickname Spud?

NameChange30 · 21/09/2016 17:23

I really hate it when people say this, but I'm going to be a hypocrite: I KNOW A DOG CALLED MURPHY

You do sometimes get human names used for pets, but this would be the other way around.

Sorry!

jusdepamplemousse · 21/09/2016 17:21

Nooooooooooooo.

It's that awful, it's an Irish name but no Irish person would ever call their child that - especially their girl child - thing.

Because it's a surname.

Honestly it'd be like someone calling their kid Jones or Jeeves.

But sure if you like it, go for it. Grin

I came on to say it's a dog's name. My opinion is that it's horrible for any human. But then I don't like surnames as first names generally.

chinlo · 21/09/2016 17:15

there are thousands of beautiful names to choose from >why is there a fashion for ugly ones

Because beauty is subjective.

I feel desperately sorry for you.

therootoftheroot · 21/09/2016 17:14

oh god these poor children Sad

i feel desperately sorry for so many of the poor babies i read about on here wit these awful, desperately awful nmaes.
who looks a beautiful newborn baby girl and thinks 'let's call her murphy?'

or at a cute little boy and think 'hector is just right'

there are thousands of beautiful names to choose from >why is there a fashion for ugly ones?

DoYouRememberJustinBobby · 21/09/2016 17:11

Terrible. Just terrible. It's a surname or a drink.

chinlo · 21/09/2016 17:11

There's a film with a girl called Murphy in it. The one where the dad goes to space

Interstellar. What a great film. (p.s. spoiler alert!)

Americans sure do love giving girls surname names.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 21/09/2016 17:09

I met an adorable little pup named Murphy once. It's not a name for a human though and certainly not a little girl. IMHO

Loyly · 21/09/2016 17:06

Murphy for a girl is just awful, OP. I don't like it, sorry. But Hector for a boy is excellent.
