Ivy is fantastic, middle name of Mae is overdone and naff.

I do know an Ivy-Mae and I think it's a shame they didn't just go with Ivy.

Be mindful of the combination with your last name. I as an initial can be tricky and I know 2 girls with the name-may surname combination whose full name forms a hilarious sentence.

A longer names works better imo with a short first name.

Ivy Juliet is beautiful. Middle names are hard. Mae is definitely popular but I think Ivy is creeping back into popularity too. I just disregard popularity at all. One of my girls had a top 10 name, the other has something along the lines of Ivy. Both have 'proper' middle names though.

Yeah blink they are just so popular now.
I actually like May/Mae, Rose and Grace as names. They are classic and beautiful.
However every time it pops up on mine or DP's Facebook that an acquaintance or friend has had a baby girl, every single time it's Something-Mae or Something-Rose. Not so much Grace in our area. So I wouldn't use them as a middle name for that reason - it's become a bit unimaginative and predictable but they are nice names on their own.

OP if you've never been around small children - or not been on the mumsnet name boards - it may have escaped your attention that Mae / May is one of the default middle names that everyone seems to use for some reason. Rose and Grace are the other two.

I'd love to see the stats on these names I wouldn't be surprised if over 50% of girls under 10 have one of these as their middle name.

Every time I see all 3 on a middle name thread (which is often) I think BINGO!

I love Ivy and Iris. Not keen on Mae- I think you almost need a two syllable middle name!

As long as not hyphenated I don't see the issue ... No one really knows people's middle names, so if you like it go for it. First names are the ones that are important.

Ivy is nice, as people have said the combination with Mae/ May is vastly overdone so I would think of a more original middle name.

I think the middle name is too short to go with a short first name.

How about Ivy Maeve? Or Ivy Maelle? I like Ivis Mae as well.

Mae is nice and so is Ivy but perhaps not together. Mother is Mãe in Portuguese. The accent changes things so it's not quite the same.

My middle name is Mae and I'm 28 years old. (Not named after family) Smile
