Sidney for a boy

Any thoughts? yay or nay?

My niece is convinced Sidney is a girls name but thats because she's 13 and it's become a trendy girls name apparently. First I've heard of that.

Stanley was also on our list but seems to be up there on the trendy list now. I'm not worried about having a popular name but would prefer not to have a trendy one if that makes sense.

But be prepared for people to ask if you named him after Sid Vicious. Continuously.

Sidney was on our boys list. I love it.

Violet was also on our list, we ended up calling her Florence.

I like it. DH grandad was a Sidney. I think it's Sydney for girls, but always think of it as a male name - Sidney Poitier, Sid James etc.

I love it for either sex. I grew up with a female cat called Sydney, named after Sid James.

I don't like it, but I don't think it's particularly feminine.

Having said that, the only Sidney I've known is a girl. She'd be 25 now.

He'll get Sid for short, definitely. Just make sure you're okay with that. The Sidney we knew got Sid or Cindy as nicknames. Sid is very... 2000 Olympics mascot.
