Any thoughts? yay or nay?

My niece is convinced Sidney is a girls name but thats because she's 13 and it's become a trendy girls name apparently. First I've heard of that.

Oh! Ha ha! Have just read the thread and see you have a girl.

Congratulations - I love all your names (Harlow not so much - reminds me of a town in Essex and a scientist who did hideous experiments on monkeys). All the others are very gorgeous to my mind - good luck!

ineedbanoffee · 28/09/2016 14:23

It was my granddad's name. If we'd ever had a boy this was on our list. Suited my granddad. I also know a baby Sid. He's gorgeous. Go for it!

Sydney (for a boy) and Violet are lovely names Smile

PageStillNotFound404 · 28/09/2016 13:32

Congratulations OP! I like all of your name choices but particularly Willow, Scarlett and Violet.

FindingNemoFindingDory · 28/09/2016 13:32

Sorry, I didn't see the update!

Violet, but I'd go for Scarlet (if you spelt it like the colour) Smile

CalmYaTits · 28/09/2016 13:28

Like Sidney for a boy and Cydney for a girl

FindingNemoFindingDory · 28/09/2016 13:03

I only like Sydney, for a girl...

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 28/09/2016 11:44

Congratulations!

I think Violet. But now that you know her what are your thoughts?

Whoopiedoo · 28/09/2016 10:43

Baby arrived safely last week and is a girl! :) We were convinced she was a boy :)

So names on the shortlist are now

Violet
Autumn
Scarlett
Mabel
Harlow

Any thoughts?

All boys! I do know a 12 year old girl Sydney too that DD has just reminded me about.

MakeItStopNeville · 19/09/2016 01:17

It was kind of popular about 12 years ago. I know at least 3 12 year old Sidney's!

GiddyOnZackHunt · 19/09/2016 01:15

I had multiple great uncle Sids. Sounds funny when you say 'sid' but it sounds fine as 'Sid'.

Buntysoven · 19/09/2016 00:59

I like Violet but Sidney for boy or girl is my least favourite name ever. Makes me think of kidney.

Batteriesallgone · 18/09/2016 15:13

Nickname for Violet could be Lettie. Love that too. Ooh you're making me broody now with your lovely baby names damn you OP Wink

ImSoVeryTired · 18/09/2016 15:06

Old fashioned name due a comeback. I like it and Sid for short. Really don't like the female version.

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 18/09/2016 15:02

Nope sometimes from strangers!

I don't even look punk or alternative in any way Grin

Honeybee79 · 18/09/2016 13:10

That is just odd Ineedmorelemon!! Presumably in a jokey kind of way?!

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 18/09/2016 12:51

I get asked it all the time!!! Confused

Honeybee79 · 18/09/2016 12:24

Should add that no one has ever asked if we named DS after Sid Viscous!

We're now expecting a girl and both DH and I really like Nancy, but have had to rule it out for obvious reasons . . . Grin

Honeybee79 · 18/09/2016 12:22

I have a 5 yr old DS called Sidney and we shorten it to Sid. He loves it as he only meets another Sid v occasionally. Not met any girls called Sidney as yet.

We wanted something not too commonplace but not too unusual either. Still like it 5 years on!

MotherofPearl · 18/09/2016 12:21

I know siblings (11 and 8) called Sidney and Violet. Sidney is a boy and invariably called Sid. I love both names.

Sydney and Violet were both grandparents/great Uncles and Aunts of mine, so I offer you in the same vein: Annie, George, Doreen, Richard, Herbert, Christine, Frances.

Sophronia · 18/09/2016 12:06

Love Sidney for a boy. Sid is really cute.
