Sidney for a boy

Any thoughts? yay or nay?

My niece is convinced Sidney is a girls name but thats because she's 13 and it's become a trendy girls name apparently. First I've heard of that.

Congratulations - I love all your names (Harlow not so much - reminds me of a town in Essex and a scientist who did hideous experiments on monkeys). All the others are very gorgeous to my mind - good luck!

It was my granddad's name. If we'd ever had a boy this was on our list. Suited my granddad. I also know a baby Sid. He's gorgeous. Go for it!

Baby arrived safely last week and is a girl! :) We were convinced she was a boy :)

So names on the shortlist are now

Violet
Autumn
Scarlett
Mabel
Harlow

Any thoughts?

I had multiple great uncle Sids. Sounds funny when you say 'sid' but it sounds fine as 'Sid'.

Old fashioned name due a comeback. I like it and Sid for short. Really don't like the female version.

Should add that no one has ever asked if we named DS after Sid Viscous!

We're now expecting a girl and both DH and I really like Nancy, but have had to rule it out for obvious reasons . . . Grin

I have a 5 yr old DS called Sidney and we shorten it to Sid. He loves it as he only meets another Sid v occasionally. Not met any girls called Sidney as yet.

We wanted something not too commonplace but not too unusual either. Still like it 5 years on!

I know siblings (11 and 8) called Sidney and Violet. Sidney is a boy and invariably called Sid. I love both names.

Sydney and Violet were both grandparents/great Uncles and Aunts of mine, so I offer you in the same vein: Annie, George, Doreen, Richard, Herbert, Christine, Frances.
