Gavin for a boy?

Considering this name for DS2. I like the sound of it and don't think its that common. What do you think?

Gawain is a great name provided you've read the poem and don't mind him being a dick.

Gawaine, Agravaine, Gareth and Mordred were Morgana Le Fay's sons. All ace. Except for Gareth.

David isn't so bad. My friend was christened Steve - not Steven which I find hilarious. So Dave is in the same camp for me. But I'm still not feeling the 70/80s revival!

My friend has a baby called David.

He's not called Baby David though a la the Royle Family.

Seeking there were 2 David's in DS1's nursery a year or two ago.

I was quite surprised to see any little David's, let alone 2 in the same nursery group, i'd wrongly thought David was out of fashion for babies now.

Oh I see I'm in a minority. I love the name Gavin, isn't it a variant of Gawain and means 'hawk'? I find that rather romantic. Start a revival OP!

Don't like Gavin, but sure it's due a revival.

I do like Jason (Jay) for its Greek Mythology connections and also a cute boy a primary school.

70s/80s names are making a comeback, my 5 year old has classmates called Kevin and Colin. I quite like Gavin. Better than the endless parade of Cayden/Jayden/Hayden that we've had for the last few years round my way.

I don't like it, but I was a 70s baby. I'm sure it will have its day again, but am not certain the world is ready for it just yet!

My 'guilty secret' favourite 1970s name. I love all the decade appropriate references being attached to it. I picture Gavin aged about seven with a blond bowl haircut and a nylon polo neck in Harvest Gold ( or was the colour of his mum and dad's Maxi) or maybe narrow stripes, brown, orange and gold.

If I met a man my age called Gavin I would think nothing of it, I'd prob quite like it. It's nice name to say. I like G names ( I guess I would since I have one) but I do think it's name that needs a little growing into.
I'd prob be surprised if a friend introduced their little baby as Gavin, but I wouldn't think it's an awful name or anything.

Do you have any Welsh heritage? Geraint and Gethin are both nice. Or get all Arthurian and go for Gawain...?

It's very 70s. Maybe it's due a comeback. I can't get past the memory of a knobber of an ex called Gavin but I appreciate you don't have that association!

Gavin is an excellent name, and if you get a girl next you can call her Stacey.
