I love Monty, my dog is called Monty Smile

I would use it for a child too. We have friends with a Monty, his full name is Montague.

Lol, surely you could apply that to almost any name! Look:

Gus sounds like gas but harder to say

Monty sounds like minty but harder to say

etc.

Gus is a) everywhere, and b) horrible (IMO only, of course). It reminds me of gas and pus. It's just totally unpleasant.

Fabulous thanks - sounds like Solomon is the winner which is where we were leaning anyway but struggling to make a firm decision - picking for our daughter was much easier!

I like Solomon best and think Sol and Solly are great shortenings too. Not so keen on the other two names

Sol or solly are both used for Solomon

If you like monty you could even use Mon/Monty as a shortening of Solomon - best of both worlds :)

Sol is a very common and quite obvious shortening, I would say.

I like Gus. I actually know a female Gus (Augusta) and it suits her well, but I think it works just as well for a boy. What would it be shoot for? Monty also needs to be short for something surely? Montgomery? Solomon is nice but quite a big name with no obvious shortenings.
