This is our shortlist. What do people prefer? How would you rank each name?

Enid
Nell
Imogen
Belle

I completely agree with Cancelly. I could've written her post word for word Grin

CancellyMcChequeface · 01/09/2016 23:10

The only one I really like is Imogen, sorry!

Nell is alright as a nickname for Ellen, Eleanor, Helen, etc. but seems very insubstantial on its own.

Clawdy · 01/09/2016 22:39

Any of those names - but Enid is awful..

marmitecrumpets · 01/09/2016 22:21

Love love love Eden

villainousbroodmare · 01/09/2016 22:19

Nell wins for me. Enid is horrific. It's like earwax and aphids and wet knickers.

MissisBee · 01/09/2016 22:19

DH declared yesterday "Nelly is short for Nellington". Can't think of the name out of that context now Grin

upaladderagain · 01/09/2016 22:16

Love Eden, Nell is good too. Not keen on Imogen, and Enid should wear Nora Batty stockings and a hairnet while collecting her pension. Lots and lots of Belles around, usually short for Isabelle.

RockinHippy · 01/09/2016 20:45

How weird, your list is very similar to mine, though over a decade agoSmile

We had Edith instead of Enid & no Nell, but otherwise its the same!

We ended up with an Eden, & it IS definitely a nameHmm quite an ancient one actually, " & means blessed one" though its more common in Africa & Egypt for girls & America for boys.

We've only ever hear of 4 other girls & one boy here & only ever met 2 in the UK (several when travelling though) & one was named after DD, met lots of Belles, Imogens & Nells though, so we are really glad we went with Eden & though we used NN when small, she loves her name & always uses Eden now

Zombieswillreign · 01/09/2016 20:35

I used to have kids sing the Nellie the elephant song to me when I was at school, obvious reasons...thank god I wasn't called nell,it would of fitted well with the bullying

Zombieswillreign · 01/09/2016 20:33

All of my kids have an Imogen in their class.vv popular

rumblingDMexploitingbstds · 01/09/2016 20:31

What on earth are you doing on MN with that list of perfectly lovely names??? Where are the random nouns? Surely you need a Table or a Flamingo or an Astronaut in there somewhere instead of naming your daughter something so lovely? Grin

There isn't one of those you could go wrong with, I don't know how you choose between them. I love Enid, that's a special one and there won't be three of those in any classroom.

livinglooney8 · 01/09/2016 20:31

Nell by miles - although prefer it as a nn for Helena.

Stevefromstevenage · 01/09/2016 20:30

I love them all and considered some of them for our dd2. Elin is another name I loved that is a bit like yours.

Floggingmolly · 01/09/2016 20:28

Oh yes, Tess is lovely.

Floggingmolly · 01/09/2016 20:27

I love Imogen. I've only ever known male Eden's, so it doesn't sit right with me as a girls name.
The others are frankly hideous, sorry.

GoldFishFingerz · 01/09/2016 20:26

Nell is stunning

fluentinsarcasm · 01/09/2016 20:25

I think all are pretty (Nell for me) apart from Enid. I sometimes wonder if those who say they love it would actually give it to their dd.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 01/09/2016 20:24

Imogen
Belle
Nell
Eden
Enid

heron98 · 01/09/2016 20:15

Enid is awful. Truly.

Eden - it's a place, not a name

I like Imogen

Nell and Belle sound like abbreviations

n0ne · 01/09/2016 20:11

Adore Enid, it was on my list for DD

Loyly · 01/09/2016 20:05

Imogen is lovely

MrsGsnow18 · 01/09/2016 20:04

Enid is beautiful!

I like Imogen too.
Belle is nice but very, very popular!
Eden is becoming very popular.
Nell is being mentioned a lot on MN at the moment too!

Nonameyet1 · 01/09/2016 20:02

Lora, Ida and Edie were on my original list and decided had to narrow it down a bit more, we have similar choices! Tess is lovely!

Nell was on my shortlist but our baby ended up being a Tess. We liked Bess, Faye, Elise, Marie, Edie and Ida too. I would definitely consider Ida and Elise as both are beautifully classic.

WaitroseCoffeeCostaCup · 01/09/2016 19:25

Enid no no no!
The others are ok except Imogen which is so yawn (sorry!)
My favourite from the list is Eden.
