Opinions on Teddie for a girl?

Just wondered what the general consensus on the name Teddie for a girl are?

Cute or too cutesy?

Teddie on the birth certificate, no longer name.

Adding -ie to a boy's name doesn't feminise it.

I'm small and have always looked young. Having a little-girl name would have just been one more barrier to being taken seriously.

Too cute and too cutesy- adult women do not want cute OR cutesy names.
And it's a boy's name as well.

Theodora is lovely! Not a name I ever thought of.
I'm not a fan of Teddy In general. I find it just too cutsey and is becoming very popular.
But her child, so she gets to choose!

It kind of sounds like a pornstar name to me. Theodora is really nice though. I would have that as the full name and Teddie as the nickname so she has more options when she's older.

QueenBean - I agree - upper class, well educated Teddie is a barrister, lives in Fulham but frequently visits her parents in the Cotswold where she is a member of the local hunt. Her best friend hangs out with Pippa Middleton, and they occasionally all bump into each other at Wimbledon and the polo.

Agree, far too cutesy, especially with the ie ending. Give the child a proper name on her birth certificate or at the very least, as a middle name (but NOT Mae/Rae/Sue/Pink) so she has options when Teddie becomes embarrassing.

Hmm. I think Teddie/Teddy is a nickname only, eg for Theodora. Otherwise doesn't give her many options as she becomes a grown up!

only my mother refereed to me as phina short for josephine .teddie can be a super sweet mummy nickname that you share with your daughter

I think it's fine, but then I don't get the name angst at all on MN. If you think about people in the public eye, or even just those with professional jobs (the Holy Grail test to see if a name is acceptable on MN), they have tonnes of different names. If you watch an film and look at the names scrolling past in the credits, you'll see there's almost no names that are a barrier to employment. Teddie could be a barrister, it's fine! When you meet someone in person, you just get to know them, name and all.

The exception is rude names, but then I know someone who has been a Willy all his life, and he's done fine!

I was browsing the list of female members of parliament recently (for work) and in among the Chloes, Catharines and so forth, there's a Sheryll, a Tulip, a Mims and so forth, all names that would probably be rejected on MN but haven't stopped anyone being in power. Lots of Helens for some reason.

Ridiculous to have it as a name on a birth certificate. Fine as a nn if that what your friend wants to do but to give a girl a cutesy male and not very nice name is just a bit mean IMO.

also for a girl...a teddy is a type of sexy underwear
