Regretting my baby name choice

When I choice the name for my DC i liked it because I hadn't heard anyone where I live with that name. I chose it from the baby name book. I struggled with boys names and there are very few that I like.

However since reading on mumsnet (and I don't know why it bothers me but it does) a lot of people have said it's a chav name. I never thought you could really get chav names just chavy people?

But it's made me very insecure and I'm seriously considering changing it now. Am I being stupid? It's upset me quite a bit.

Some people on MN are obsessed with 'chav' this and 'chavvy' that. It's tedious.

Harrison Ford seems to have done okay for himself. On the subject of Mr Ford that gives me an excuse to share my favourite photo of him. Behold the beauty.........

(He's the one on the right. I'm sure the other men are lovely etc. etc but focus on the right hand side of the photo).

I know. It's just that I've seen that word thrown around quite a lot on here. Made me paranoid thinking there was such a thing, especially a name!

One of the most well off families around here has a Harrison, I wouldn't think 'chav', not that many decent people do to be honest it's a horrible term.

my son is called Harrison. Never heard it being called chavvy. There are no other Harrisons at his school so I like that.

I have a Harrison and he is not at all chavvy! I love the name (obviously). It's more unusual than Harry but gives you a good option for shortening.
I've only had positive comments.
He is a cheeky monkey though!

I am afraid I often see name choices on here and think oh no! I'm afraid I do see some names as "chavvy". Harrison is NOT one of those. So if a judgy old trout like me thinks it's ok then you're good!!!

Not chavvy. I know of one whose mum is a lawyer. Def not chav.

Harrison is lovely and I wouldn't think of it as chavvy.

DS's name is a fad according to MN but we like it and it seems to suit him.

It is a perfectly lovely name. If you like it then stick with it. Honestly, opinions will always be divided on here - you will never get a consensus - and while it can be a good sounding board ultimately you have chosen a lovely name that you like. If you still like it, then don't change it!

DS has a 'chav' name. It's a family name and imo a classic name but it gets on the hated list on MN all the time. But also on the top ten names (wasn't overused when we chose it, but got popular soon after.) You can't win. No point caring.

Harrison is a nice name. Nicky Clarke (the hairdresser's) son is Harrison and I've never thought of it as chavvy.

I think Harrison is a lovely name, I can't see it as chavvy at all? I think it's normal to wobble a bit about names, I wobbled a little bit about our son's name, even though I actually love it. I love it even more now 2 years down the line! Might very well be the same for you :)

My ex niece little boy is called Harrison and believe me they are the least "chavvy" people you could ever meet.... She is a bit of a hyacinth bucket Grin

I 100% would not think anything bad or chavvy if I heard that name in fact the few Harrison's I know are from lovely families

According to MN my name is 1970s (born mid 80s), and my DS' name is a boring filler. Probably true, but oh well! They suit us :)

Thank you again for all the replies. Reading through all of your comments has definitely put things in perspective for me! I feel a lot better. I think it was just me being silly and insecure.
