Final two boys names

Our gorgeous little boy arrived on Wed and is still nameless - really need to make a decision! We're pretty much down to Arlo or Fox - which do you prefer and why?

My concern is that Arlo is about to become mega popular, though on a par with what I'm not sure...

Thanks!

I actually love Fox. Although i did have a massive crush on David Duchovny. But i wouldnt use it. This thread goes to show what reactions people have to it

I have an Arlo. When he was born a lot of people hadnt heard of it (he's nearly 6) and now people keep telling me how they know of ones being born. It has become a bit faddy.

Justwanttoweeinpeace · 22/08/2016 18:19

Arlo.

MadameJosephine · 22/08/2016 18:18

I think Arlo Fox is lovely

Congratulations on your new baby Flowers

MoreGilmoreGirls · 22/08/2016 18:10

I disagree I have a very dull name and I hate it. Would have loved something a bit different.

CPtart · 22/08/2016 18:04

There's a lot to be said for being dull. Especially where names are concerned.
If forced to choose, then Arlo.

MoreGilmoreGirls · 22/08/2016 18:02

Like both names, prefer Fox. Ignore the name bashers OP. You can always give him a traditional middle name. Congrats Flowers

Congratulations!!
I've never met an Arlo or heard the name much, I have seen the little dinosaur but wouldn't have remembered the name Arlo being used.
I've seen a few name threads on here with Fox mentioned, never met one but did love the X-files Smile
I think using both would be cool Arlo Fox sounds good.

Squabblesallaround · 22/08/2016 17:27

Congrats on the birth of your son OP Flowers
Both are not my cup of tea as I'm sure my DC's names are not yours. I would go with whichever goes best with your surname. If you love both you could always do Arlo Fox with a 3rd more mainstream name like ....Erm....Bob (sorry channelled my inner black adder there!) so that if for any reason he doesn't like your choice when he grows up, he can call himself by the more boring common one

CafeCremeMerci · 22/08/2016 17:26

Congratulations 💐

Neither would be my choice, but if I had to choose between them I'd choose Arlo. Arlo Fox Surname (I don't like weather/food/animals as names, but the go together well with Fox as a middle name). Arlo might become quite popular, but I think that's less of a problem than Fox would be.

Ilovenannyplum · 22/08/2016 17:17

Congrats OP
I like Arlo

Ignore PP's name bashing, not everyone wants to call their kids Michael and Matthews Wink

LunaLoveg00d · 22/08/2016 17:16

Arlo is a lot better than Fox. But that's not saying much.

Biscuitsneeded · 22/08/2016 17:13

I also think Arlo Fox. Then Fox could be a middle name derived from a maiden name, for example, and sounds more traditional and less try-hard.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 22/08/2016 17:09

Arlo is also the dinosaur from The Good Dinosaur. His character was a sweetie.

TomDaleysTightTrunks · 22/08/2016 17:02

I know a toddler called Wolfie and no one bats an eyelid so go for Fox. I like it! Its masculine.

Porcupinetree · 22/08/2016 16:59

Definitely Fox. Arlo is the cat in Bing.

IllMetByMoonlight · 22/08/2016 16:57

Congratulations!
My DCs were unnamed until the very last day when you have to register a birth, so no need to hurry.
Arlo rather than Fox. But what do you think of Elmo? I think it's excellent.

MotherOfGlob · 22/08/2016 16:50

Congratulations! Flowers

I really like Arlo.

neonrainbow · 22/08/2016 16:49

You son may not want to spend his life in south london. Fox. Honestly.

SatsukiKusakabe · 22/08/2016 16:48

Congratulations.

Of the two, I prefer Fox as a sound, but I wouldn't use it as a first name. Arlo Guthrie is a musician, name's been around a long old while and is probably having a bit of a moment, but I don't think a major one, so I'd go for it if you like it.

sonlypuppyfat · 22/08/2016 16:41

Even in the X Files Fox Mulder didn't like his name

BadToTheBone · 22/08/2016 16:36

Although Fox is a good middle name.

BadToTheBone · 22/08/2016 16:35

Arlo is nice, Fox is try too hard.

MuffyTheUmpireSlayer · 22/08/2016 16:18

Arlo.

There's nothing wrong with introducing yourself without your name being David or Peter Grin

KoalaDownUnder · 22/08/2016 16:08

Nah, Fox and Bear and Wolf and the like are just silly.

Arlo is okay. It reminds me of the whole Milo/Hugo/Otto '-o is so cooool' thing that seems to be going on currently, but it is certainly better than Fox.
