Final two boys names

Our gorgeous little boy arrived on Wed and is still nameless - really need to make a decision! We're pretty much down to Arlo or Fox - which do you prefer and why?

My concern is that Arlo is about to become mega popular, though on a par with what I'm not sure...

I like Arlo.

I'm not a fan of Fox but I do know one and his name doesn't stand out any more. It's just him.

I actually really like Fox. My DP would never allow it (he would share the views expressed already by PP) but I think it's a strong, punchy, no nonsense sounding name. But then I'm a big fan of names derived from nature esp trees and flowers. Animals are a bit harder to pull off, I think Fox is one of the better ones.

Arlo sounds like the name of a slack-jawed yokel.

Though obviously it's better than Fox.

Arlo sounds like a backwoods Kentucky character - but then he could marry one of the -Mae names that are very popular that also sound very redneck.

It would be entertaining to have a Fox when you ask someone to do something for him you could say it's for Foxs sake.

Not keen on either. Arlo is trendy and will date, and Fox is just terrible.

I'm in SW London too and have never heard of either name. I'll have to keep my ears open on Northcote Road.
I personally think Fox is a bit mean, the poor child is going to be stuck with that name for ever. As someone whose parents went a bit all out with my name, I would go with Arlo.
And congratulations on your new little one.

Tiger is a nickname too, although his given name is Eldrick which is equally unusual.

I think by the time a baby born today is a young adult we will be quite used to all kinds of interesting and different names. I loved that YouTube video, yet it wouldn't put me off naming my child Fox if I really liked it. I don't know why it would be something that would cause them a problem in the future.

tiger is a nickname

bear grylls is edward michael

they have proper names and then a nickname

Do your DS a favour and call him Arlo. Fox is honestly quite bad.

Come to think of it, I wonder if Tiger Woods' parents had much support for their choice of name in the early days, or Bear Grylls'?

Op I get that you don't appreciate the criticism of Fox as a name, but it would be helpful to think of how you will feel as a mum when the same criticism and comments happen in real life.

Because it will happen, and he will hate his name because of it.

I was pipped to the post by a pp, but likewise he will never live down the awful fox song

I really like Fox but not sure I'd be brave enough to use it so Arlo from me.

All the Wolf haters I'm feeling offended. I had a great uncle Wolf, shortened from Wolfgang - hardly a recently discovered name.

If I heard it on the playground I'd probably assume Bear was an Edward or Theodore (assuming the family were British).

Back to Fox and Arlo. I like both! (Helpful)

I'm not keen on either name, but then again I'm used to my traditional names. However some names that are now traditional were probably unusual in previous centuries.

Between the two I prefer Arlo, because i've heard of it used as a first name before. I think Fox might get mistaken for a surname and I'm not keen on using the name of an animal for a person.

I love Fox. Haters gonna hate. Considering it for my son. I teach a Fox and he's super cool. Arlo too common. Where in the country di you live?
