Fast becoming one of my favourites. Whats your thoughts, do you think it will date?

Sorry to disappoint but it definitely does have an unpleasant meaning. I've just googled it and all 3 of the first sites that come up say the same thing.

Did a quick research and it seems it originates from a French town called Meillorie which was an ancient mill town. Meillorie is Latin for crush, which leads to the army connection of crusher. The 'unfortunate' link applies to the people who were crushed by the army.

Yes I saw that too, but the meaning of the words in both French and Latin pre-date so I don't believe that this army thing is correct. If your heart is set on the name then good for you, but I just wanted to make you aware it has some very negative connotations.

Op those negative connotations aren't going to be well known. If you love it, I wouldn't let it put you off.

Amelia means "without limbs" in medicine. It doesn't seem to put people off much.

Very famous children's author Spells it Malorie ( Blackman) well I guess her parents spelt it that way Smile

I think it's a nice sounding name however it's spelled.

I think if you spell it with the ie it looks more French and then it's harder to separate it from the negative meaning.
Mallory spelled like the name Mallory is nice

I love the name Mallory but spelt as the normal way. It's on my list for #2 but DH not so keen. I only know it from the books which I read as a girl.

Ok the general consensus is no E. I take your points.

I thought it looked more feminine with an E but agree it will be misspelt

It makes me think of Malorie Blackman - a pretty cool person to share a name! Brilliant author and children's laureate.
