I studied Latin and classical studies at A Level, so yes thank you, I'm well aware of the meaning. Suggesting that naming a baby might bring death is a shitty thing to say though!

IslandLife that's a bit harsh. Have you looked up what the Greek God Apollo is about? God of medicine and healing but also God of ill health and deadly plague.

I wouldn't go Xavier Zeus because if they hate having an unusual name when they are older then their only choice is to change it by deed poll. If you give them a more mainstream middle name they can just use that.

So he'll either bring good health or death. I'd stick to something safer.

Do you have Greek / Roman heritage? The classical names are still the norm in Greece so if you do I say go for it. If not, personally I wouldn't (you'll be asked all the time if you're Greek) just as I wouldn't personally use Fergus without Scottish heritage but in itself it's a good strong name.

I love my DS's name, but totally regret not giving him other names as well that I really like, but other people are a bit !!! about. (I was too tired in the first few weeks with Surprise Boy to think clearly beyond his first name. I'd had loads of girl's names all lined up...)

Xavier should be paired with another fine RC name like Benedict, Anselm, Francis or Ignatius.

Keep the gods for the middle names and then they'll have something to use in those tedious work ice-breakers where you have to unique fact or guess who the fact belongs to

DH and I looked at Oberon as a potential name for DC1 if it's a boy (due Christmas) but if his friends are intelligent then naming our son after the "king of the faries" is a sure fire way to have the poor lamb bullied.
