Can I have an Amelia, NN Amy?

Is it too far or a stretch, I like NNs to be more of a shortening, instead of something like Milly/Millie, where it's an actual nickname.

I think this is mad. They're two totally different names in their own right.

I mean this nicely, but you can't control if they end up with a nickname or not. A friend was adamant her son would never be known as anything other than William. He is Will to absolutely everybody.

No, I'm not calling her Amy Confused I'll just use that when I want to shorten her name. It's no different to someone asking about Edward being a Ted...

I like the name Amelia. I won't have her known as Amy, I just want there to be a shortening I can use, that's from the first part of her name really.

I agree, why not just call her Amy as that's the name you want her to be known as? It's a legitimate name.

Seems a bit contrived to me. Just call her Amy. Much less common than Amelia at the moment.

Not if you're having a boy. And not if you want her to be the only one in the class. But otherwise, yes of course.

But actually I agree with joffrey, Amy is better as a standalone name than Amelia.

Every other little girl is called Amelia/Emilia at the moment.

Just call her Amy.
