Only stipulation is that they can't be 'made up' names and no creative spellings.

What's the most outlandish/borderline ridiculous name you've heard bestowed on a baby girl?

I was at school with a Loveday. She was the only girl in a 650 girls school who went by her surname.

SendARavenToRiverRun · 19/08/2016 08:42

Kate33 Loveday is Cornish and one d my favourite names. Wasn't allowed it though!
Some of the names mentioned are perfectly normal albeit old fashioned. Dorcas/Gwendoline/Mavis.

AuntJane · 18/08/2016 11:44

My brother once knew a girl named Crystal Shanda. Surname was Lear.

kate33 · 18/08/2016 11:34

My cousin had a friend called Loveday, it's Cornish I think and I 've always liked it,! A friend of mine has an "Eartha which suits her loads. At my dcs school, there is a Cara star and a Tia-Marie, an Oasis, a Seren and an Oceana! I like unusual names, fully aware I may have "outed" myself and not that bothered! Smiley face (actual smiles list not working)

RickOShay · 18/08/2016 08:38

Flame I think is rather lovely. Also like Coco, perhaps as a nn for Constance. Love Ariel, but just couldn't use it. Also like Araminta, Tatiana and Octavia. Wish I'd been a bit more adventurous with dd actually. What are your favourites op?

PaperdollCartoon · 18/08/2016 08:30

Gwendolyn isn't outlandish really, it's just old fashioned but very proper. I quite like some outlandish names.

My friend taught a Twinkle, apparently she was little with plaits and big glasses and it really suited her.
Years ago knew sisters called Mars and Aura, both of which I love.
Also know a Calico and Ksenya
Beija-Flor (hummingbird in Portugese I believe)

mrsclooneytoyou · 18/08/2016 08:20

Dp wanted to name dd1 Serendipity
I said No.

3luckystars · 18/08/2016 02:07

Fophie is the winner for me!

YourNewspaperIsShit · 18/08/2016 01:27

Also does anyone else think some of the names mentioned aren't even unusual in the slightest Hmm

YourNewspaperIsShit · 18/08/2016 01:24

I love most of these Grin Especially September, Nirvana, Blue and Echo.

Jupiter is my favourite but thats because its my cats name

Atenco · 18/08/2016 01:11

A lot of these names are really lovely and just unusual. I went to university many years ago with a fella whose name was Stalin, now there is a name to live down.

NoMudNoLotus · 18/08/2016 00:19

I have a DD called Blossom.

I love the African virtue names - Blessing being one of my faves.

If I had any more children DC I may include Rainbow as rainbows are symbols of hope.

purplepaisley · 17/08/2016 23:51

Chamonix - saw a child's jumper labelled this at my son's school.

Ninette. For years I thought the child was called Nanette (as in Newman) until I saw it written down.

Samara
Magenta

springwaters · 17/08/2016 23:41

I know a

Chardonnay

Chardonney

You would think if you were going to call you child after a wine you could at least splash out a fiver on a bottle to check the spelling

Precious Gold
Feral
Rainbow

An adult called Tinkerbelle. I honestly thought it was a nickname but no.

Captainkanga · 17/08/2016 23:34

There's a little girl in our street named Tennessee which must have been a nightmare to learn to spell!

mrsclooneytoyou · 17/08/2016 23:32

SlinkyB · 17/08/2016 23:28

I know of a local lady who as an adult changed her name to Bacardi Ann Coke, by deed poll. True story.

PurpleDaisies · 17/08/2016 22:55

Mavis was on our list of Guinea pig names. We went with Mabel instead.

MapleandPear · 17/08/2016 22:54

Mavis must be due for revival.

Onedaftmonkey · 17/08/2016 22:51

Dorcas need I say more.

HerRoyalFattyness · 17/08/2016 22:50

(That was in reply to laura and her panther work experience student)

HerRoyalFattyness · 17/08/2016 22:50

Panther lily is a cool name and happens to be the name of one of the characters in an anime I watch but it's a boys name. Grin

AuntJane · 17/08/2016 22:45

I was at school - quite a few years ago - with Romanie, Magali, Fleurette, Saskia, Venetia, Derryn and Gwendolyn.
