Oh chameleon, 'diphthong' has just taken me back to the speech therapy years Smile

SwedishEdith · 10/08/2016 13:05

Via-let. Sort of.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 10/08/2016 12:55

Two for me.

Vi-lut.

prettypinklady · 10/08/2016 12:38

2 without a doubt. Vi-letSmile

chameleon43 · 09/08/2016 16:05

2 and a half - the 'io' sound is a diphthong if you want to be technical!

Don't think anyone would say Vi - O - let?

0pti0na1 · 09/08/2016 14:27

3

Just5minswithDacre · 09/08/2016 01:50

Two and a half the 'o' is partly swallowed the way I say it.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 09/08/2016 01:48

I always said Vile-ut until a new neighbour introduced herself with a very definite Vi-o-LET.

I can't read the name without hearing her saying it like that.

ovosmexidos · 08/08/2016 23:57

Somewhere between the 2 to be honest. Like, 2.5 syllables.

DramaAlpaca · 08/08/2016 23:54

Three syllables.

QuinionsRainbow · 08/08/2016 22:38

My Mum was Vi-o-let: definitely three syllables.

Sandsnake · 08/08/2016 21:53

3

villainousbroodmare · 08/08/2016 21:35

Three.
I would hate it spoken with two.
I think I'd go with Viola to ensure the three syllables! Grin

WaitrosePigeon · 08/08/2016 21:25

Vi-let

Love it!

marmitecrumpets · 08/08/2016 21:03

2

WanderingTrolley1 · 08/08/2016 20:55
  1. Vile-lut
maggiethemagpie · 08/08/2016 20:52

Three syllables, I pronounce it vi-a-lut

ErrolTheDragon · 08/08/2016 20:31

I thought, of course it's 3, lovely fragrant vi-o-let, vile-let would be horrid ... But then realised the latter is how it's often said.

Similar name without this issue, unambiguously 3 syllables, Viola ?

RoganJosh · 08/08/2016 20:21

I hear people saying Vi-let. I'm not sure what I'd do.

orangebird69 · 08/08/2016 20:18

Er, 3. Hmm

NataliaOsipova · 08/08/2016 20:17

3 - definitely!

BennyTheBall · 08/08/2016 20:10

3, of course.

It would drive me nuts if people said Vi-let.

Try and clap it. You can't do it with 2 beats.

Smartiepants79 · 08/08/2016 20:08

3 vi-o-let.
