Name for DD1 - Juno?

I am due a little girl in October and already have 2 boys. The boys both have classical names, but that wasn't an intentional theme really. We like a few girls names (most also classical) but Juno is the one which is growing on me the most.

I always like to check a name out on a MN thread in case i'm missing something awful! Grin

It's not awful is it? There isn't an infamous serial killer called Juno or summat? I know there was an indy film a while back, but i never saw it. I don't think it was too offensive.

Also we can't think of any middle names to go with it. Any suggestions welcome.

We have a double barrelled surname. Similar sounding to Watson-Ingram (but not).

We are quite happy with gods names, we have very high expectations for all our children Wink and i am named after a prophet - a really fucking unfortunate one, but a prophet nonetheless.

I love the name Juno but my surname is more commonly a first name, so with Juno in front it sounds like "do you know... Martin" (for example) Which sadly put me off using it. Love it though. I want it to be my name!

Gobsmacked at the idea of anybody mistaking Juno for a boy's name - didn't people mean it's a popular dog name? I'm not keen on it myself as it just seems presumptuous to me to give a child the name of a god or goddess (I know this is illogical, especially coming from an atheist!).

Is Hermione too associated with Harry Potter? What about Penelope? Thalia? Xanthe? Zenobia? I suspect Helen/Helena, Zoe and Sophia are too mainstream.

I like the name Juno, but I think it'd depend on the surname whether I'd use it. It doesn't go with my surname or else I'd have it on my list for one of my future brood!

haha! No fear of that. I am 5ft 10 and very broad, dh is 6ft 1 and completely square, and our children are on the 91st and 98th centiles and were 9 and 10lb at birth (the 10 pounder was 3 weeks early too!). And of course we are all beautiful. Grin

I am so big with still 10 weeks to go that people are already gasping at me. I can't imagine she will be a delicate in any way. And if she's anything like her brothers, she will be into wrestling and smashing holes in the wall Confused (well, if you will name your children after Spartan warriors...)

For many hundreds of years, Junoesque has meant 'queenly, beautiful, tall, imposing, stately' - it's a great neame so long as you and yor family are not likely to produce tiny, delicate, fine-boned offspring.

I really like Juno, but to me it feels a little bit too short and cute next to Lysander and Lucian. It's a great name, but Artemis and Antigone are fab too and fit better stylistically with her elder brothers' names IMO. Persephone is stunning too, but if you're not feeling it this time round, you're not feeling it...

With dses we couldn't decide on any we liked and with this one we have so many that we like. I think this is worse.

We are pretty big people. I am often described as 'athletic' and 'amazonian', and dh is a tank. Our boys are also massive. So the chances of her being a slight delicate girl are nil. I've never heard Junoesque used as a description before.

I like Juno a lot. No negative connotations for me (and the film is great - the Juno character is fantastic in it).

I really, really like Artemis though. And I like the suggestion up thread of Hebe (both of these were vetoed by DH for our DD - she'd have been a great Artemis, though...).

It's a lovely name.

What kind of physiques do you and your partner have? If she's likely to be on the chunky or curvy side in adulthood she might get 'junoesque' remarks. But that's not necessarily a bad thing!

Artemis is gorgeous. Not keen on Antigone at all.

Wasn't there a film called "Juno"? It's also the name of a parenting magazine. Maybe you should Google it?

Aaaargh now you are all making me want Antigone.

If the boys had been girls we were going with Persephone. But i just don't feel it for this baby.

Maybe. But i have had similar with my name, altho it's way more popular now than it was in the 70s and 80s and it didn't really bother me. I still get people saying, oh that's unusual, or what a lovely name, which is nice.

I am surprised at how many people mispronounce the boys names - but it's easily corrected, so not a big deal.

I love Juno and Antigone, but are you going to let her in for a lifetime of 'How do you spell/ pronounce that'? with Antigone. ( Although i know how to pronounce it, so maybe it's ore common than i thought?)

I had no idea Lysander was a character in JC (was he the man who made husbands jealous? ) till after we named him and a very posh lady said 'oh like the Jilly Cooper books' Grin Most people think we named him from Midsummer Nights Dream - but again neither of us has seen or read it. We named him after the Spartan general - both of us studied classical subjects so our names tend to be based on that. It means freer of men. Most of the time it means pain in the arse to me atm! (not really, he is lovely)

It was Janus that was the 2 faced god iirc.

DH said Athena but i still remember the 80s and the bad art shop with black and white photos of naked men holding babies!

I do like Antigone and Artemis tho.

I love Antigone (Tiggy is a cute NN) and Artemis.

DD1 (17) has a friend called Artemis, and all the DC in her family have classical names, as well.

Juno is nice, but she was two faced.

What about Athena?

Also, I know an Aphroditi. (She is actually Greek, though.)

The boys names are Lysander and Lucian. I think it goes quite well together...
