Name for DD1 - Juno?

I am due a little girl in October and already have 2 boys. The boys both have classical names, but that wasn't an intentional theme really. We like a few girls names (most also classical) but Juno is the one which is growing on me the most.

I always like to check a name out on a MN thread in case i'm missing something awful!

It's not awful is it? There isn't an infamous serial killer called Juno or summat? I know there was an indy film a while back, but i never saw it. I don't think it was too offensive.

Also we can't think of any middle names to go with it. Any suggestions welcome.

I wasn't questioning you either in a hostile way pigeon, just curious. I have been called pretentious for my ds's names so i was wondering if that was it really.

Juno's a great name. Goes really well with your boys too. I liked the film and the character of the fictional Juno.

Juno Penelope popped into my mind, but Juno Persephone could work too?

I'm glad you didn't take offence. The name my son has has also been described as 'trying too hard' in the past, especially the spelling.

'Trying too hard' is a hard one to explain. I know what it means in my head but can't write it out..

Juju, I hope I've not offended you - that wasn't my intention.
However this is a board to discuss names, our likes and dislikes so I do find it a bit that people are questioned on their answers.

My daughter has a name that is smashed to bits on here all the time, not that I care, but I don't take offence - I can't, it's a board for discussing names.

I've de-lurked and reinstated my account just to comment on this.

Our toddler DD is Juno so we obviously love it. Paired it with a more classic MN in case she fancies something more yawnsome when she's older.

Interesting reading the comments on here, particularly the "trying too try hard" ones. Trying too hard for what exactly? Something strong? Interesting? Outside the top 500? Yes definitely, so what?

I have heard it's a hipster name, although I don't know if this is strictly true. We don't work in the media, only have 1 fixie and 3 Fjallraven backpacks, so it's difficult to say whether we're hipsters or not. Probably a bit borderline if I'm honest.

We've only ever had very positive responses to her name, aside from my dad who at first was all "you're definitely going to call her that??", but he got over it very quick.

MrsKoala your DSs names rock, I may add them to my list of imaginary boys names.

We live in a particularly insalubrious area, although it is very multicultural so there are all sorts of amazing names in DDs nursery class. I have yet to meet another Juno!

I think you should definitely name your DD Juno, unless you live near me obvs

Trying hard for what? To look cool? To look clever? To look quirky? To look different? Is that the same as all of the names we like or just Juno?

We never considered them getting any stick for the names. Sebastian is the most popular name in ds1 preschool.

To make it worse for them we call ds2 Lulu. But I can't imagine anyone will be laughing at him - he looks like the hulk and has quite a temper too. We often joke he will be 'the boy named Lu' like the Jonny cash song.

We do live in a quite salubrious place tho.

It's my nickname at work, and I love it..far better than my actual name which is the boring and old fashioned 'June'. (I hated it growing up in the 70s and only finally feel I have grown into it in my 50s) I also get called Juniper..

Your kids have lovely names but wouldn't last five minutes in my neighbourhood. Perhaps you live in more salubrious circumstances than me!

To me it is the film and I can't separate the two. However I suspect if I was a little older or a little younger it wouldn't cross my mind.
It's a lovely name and much more modern than June.

She was the queen of the gods and the goddess of women and marriage - so not much to live up to then...

Love Juno. Wasn't she goddess of women/marriage/childbirth? Love that association too. Makes me think of the very cool British actress Juno Temple.

Also adore Antigone and Persephone but think both are a little too out there. Congrats I'm also due DD2 in October and struggling to find 'the' name. Love Xanthe but DH does not!

Juno is lovely. I know a 14 year old Antigone ( of Greek heritage). Everyone calls her Tigs.

Juno was on my list if I had a girl, I was thinking Juno Rebecca - I like combo of it with a classic name
