Names you hate!

First born is due in Dec (gender not known) and dh and I are pondering over names and he's suggested a few now that I absolutely hate - only because I know or knew somebody with that name and they were complete and utter shit heads!

They were every day names, nothing daft like Apple or Tiger Lilly but once associated with a past prize twat!! I go right off it!

Anyone else had this?

I don't like Sarah or Anna. They're so commonly used and have been throughout history that they seem genuinely unimaginative, to me.

I find them mind numbingly dull in the same way pp says about George.

I do however like Sadie, an old nickname for Sarah and Anouk, a French/Dutch variant of Anna.

I don't like Melissa, I think it's just so drippy and unforgettable. The fact it's shortened to Mel is worse. Unfortunately this is my middle name, fortunately I go through cycles of like/dislike for it

Not mad about my name (Sarah) but it's nice that was named after a beloved Grandma.
For no reason I can think of I don't particularly like
Callum, Connor, Jacob, Isaac, Ethan.
Any place names - Brooklyn, Paris, Cleckheaten etc.
Lola, Daisy, Maisie and other cutesy girls names.
Stan/ley, Bernard, Arthur, Fred for boy. But do love Archie, Alfie and Teddy.

The only names I hear and really hate are names when I feel that the parents didn't think it through. Names like William Williamson, Michelle Michaels.... I have met far too many children where their surname and first name match like that!!! Drives me mad.

I also hate double barrelled names. Eva-Leigh, Lily-Rose, Mollie-May, Evie-Beth.... All awful! Just bloody pick one.........

I like (or am at least indifferent to) most names actually. I can understand not liking a name because of a particular person but am astounded by the very popular 70s-90s names that people have never met a nice example of:
Gemma, Rebecca and Claire - really??
I'm a Rebecca from the days when it was top 5 and there were dozens of us everywhere I went. There were also generally at least 2 or 3 Gemmas and Claires too. Most people are nice. How can they all be awful people? I can think of one Rebecca I didn't like and one Gemma I wasn't too keen on. All the many, many others have been fine or better.
Similarly, how can people not know a nice little boy called Alfie? There are thousands of Alfies! Most are delightful (as most kids of all names are).

The only names I have what I could call a hatred of are:
Gertrude
Agatha
Harold

I just think they sound so ugly.

My name and all 6 of my children's names have been mentioned but they are sometimes mentioned o shortlist of names, so don't think I will run off and change them.xx

Ooh, a lot of you don't like my DD's name... I'm quite fond of grandpa chic timeless classics.

The only name I think I couldn't use because of associations is Samantha. There were three in my class at school, none of them nice.

I agree with you about 'Missy' that's like a non-name. It goes beyond merely not my taste (where I'd put scarlet and darcy and Jaiden) and comes out somewhere near a nickname you'd give the Dog, like if the dog was called Mademoiselle and you nick named her Missy. That's where I'd place Missy on the taking-it-seriously-ometre.

Alfie, Archie ... In fact, I hate most shortened and nicknames as full names.
Then all the hyphenated girls names particularly with Mae, Lily, Lilly, Rose in them.

I dislike the popular names, where there are usually four of them in the same class;Lucy, Elle, Lily, Alfie, Harry. I can't even master any enthusiasm when I hear another new baby has been given this type of name.

Same here, and my dad and my brother. Only my mum's name didn't get a mention and I guarantee that she'd happily swap it for ANY name listed on this thread
