Help...I love the name Grayson is it too much with our surname...

Hi there. I love the name Grayson for our expectant son. But our surname is Grafton.

Initially I thought no...but it's grown on me. Would we get away with it or is it just too much?

It's too much with Grafton! Sounds very much like two surnames.

You know, when I first read it I did think "Lordy, no"

But having said it a few times in my head and then out loud, it does actually sounds quite good

I think it sounds awkward and "off", with the alliteration but then the differently pronounced a's. It's really impersonal, like a firm of accountants.

And breaking it up with a middle name sounds like an improvement for a moment until you remember that nobody will ever use the middle name.

What about James? James Grafton sounds great. Jamie Grafton, a cute little boy. Jim Grafton, a handsome young man. Chief Justice James Grafton... Wink

Aw I know I won't be in the majority but i think it sounds lovely especially when shortened to gray which is likely.

Also liked the suggestion of breaking it up with a middle name (loved James)

I wouldn't go with Grayson Grafton. What about Lawrence/Laurence - Lawrie/Laurie Grafton has a nice ring to it?

I quite like it, but softening it with a middle name might make it more acceptable to the masses. Perhaps something more classic in the middle, such as Grayson James Grafton, or Grayson Henry Grafton

I think it's fine, but that's probably because I love Grayson Perry.

If I was having a boy, I'd call him that. Even if my surname was Grayson. (Well, it worked for Jerome K Jerome and Ford Maddox Ford!)

It sounds...fake. A made-up celebrity name. It's not just the alliteration, but the paired syllables as well. Greer Grafton is marginally better.
