Craig?

It must be a celtic thing but I like it. Surprised it was so hated.

I have one. We are in Scotland though. It was down to that or Gregor interestingly.

Bit sad about all the haters. It's not a common name or anything like that here.

I agree with some pp that it's a bit '80's' but it's still a nice, strong boys name.

I think boys names I associate with the 80's /early 90's are slowly gaining popularity again. DS1 (3) has a friend called Graeme and I've come across a Philip and a Gavin at baby groups with DS2 (10m)

Dislike strongly. It's in a category of names that makes me shudder with horribleness - also Brett and Lee. All young boys with crew cuts who spit. Yuck.

Also hear it in a scouse accent sounding a bit plaintive / whingy. The first big brother winner was a slightly whingy, scouse Craig I think.

There are still an average of 35 Craigs named in Scotland every year so it's still hanging on in there. Far cry from its 1970s heyday though. Perhaps about due a comeback?

It's OK. It's unexciting, but that's not a bad thing. I only know one, he's late teens with Scottish parents.

oh don't be so dramatic! not to my exact taste but I'd admire the individuality of somebody who chose a name like Craig. It's not following any obvious trend. It's not trying to too hard to be different. He would be the only one in the class. Everybody can spell it.

'Craig' is a funny name in our family though as DNephew was asked when very little what he wanted to call the family's new kitten, and he said 'Craig', the cat is still going and called Craig. Much funnier for a cat that a baby IMO!

A friend of mine had a family cat who they named by using the 'Random pin in a phonebook method'. The cat was thereafter known as Brian L. Figgis. It could be a great way to name a baby!

I like it, it's a nice normal name, like others have said I'd put it in the same group as 'Greg'.

I really like the name. My first boyfriend was called Craig, and he's still a really lovely guy to chat to when I bump into him.

Also, there won't be millions of Craig's in his year at school, which is a plus.

My brother is Craig and we're Scots. It's a solid, masculine, straightforward name. I've never met a nasty boy called Craig.

Also how Americans say 'carrmel' instead of caramel. And 'I could care less' instead of "I couldn't care less'.

Having heard it pronounced 'creg' in too many American films/tv shows, I'd never consider it.

Americans can't pronounce it though which is annoying, I think they say "Cregg"
