Less common Old Testament / Hebrew names?

We all know that Noah, Isaac, Jacob, Elijah, Ezra, etc. are pretty popular these days. And I'm not surprised, because they're beautiful names in my opinion! I love the hebrew OT style. But I would prefer a less common name. I especially love ones that begin and/or end with vowel sounds.

What do you think of these ones:

Zephaniah
Isaiah
Nehemiah
Adoniah
Azriel
Edra

Does anybody else have any other lesser known ones that they love?

I like Jonas, Josiah and Joash, but already have a nephew called Joe, so didn't think I could use any of those!

What do people think of Asaiah? It's another biblical name but lesser known/used. And avoids the Izzy nickname.

Saul is such a gorgeous name. And very cool too.

NT Saul should never have changed his name to naff old Paul! Grin

My 7 year old is Saul, he goes to a big school with over 1,200 students and he is the only Saul there. We have actually only met one other Saul in the 7 years since he was born and that was an old man who was thrilled to hear our baby shared his name.

It's a lovely name, even if I am biased because of my lovely Saul.

I have a DS called Bram which is short for Abraham. We always get lots of complimentary comments on his name...I was braced for lots of Confused

Jotham is my all time favourite OT name. We have it for DS' middle name and I wish we'd gone with it for his first name.

The three wise men were probably on the cusp of old and new. Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar.

I love Elias, it's what I would have called my son.
Asher is great too, as is Saul.

OP if you both love Noah then go for it! My DS is an Oliver (Olly) possibly one of the most popular names when he was born (and still is I think) but it was the only name we could both agree on and I have yet to meet another, either in his year at school or not!

I love OT names, DS is Reuben but that seems to have blown up in popularity recently. I considered Ruven for him which is the Jewish version but wasn't brave enough!

I have a few less common OT names on my initial list for DCs 2&3 (twins): Ezikiel, Saul, Jonah, Malachi, Micah, Ezra, Moses and Josiah.

That said not sure I would be brave enough to use a more unusual one, especially as I'm really not religious. Think I'd be more likely to go with Samuel or Joseph or Solomon.
