What do you think of Ashlynn as a name?

I'm surprised at people pronouncing the G in Aisling, any of the many I've ever known don't. But maybe it is a regional thing. It was a very popular name in my generation (mid-30s now). Lots of Linda and Lynns from that time too, so to me Ashlynn seems very dated for a new baby.

I don't like Ashlynn - both because of the way it looks written down, and also because I think "ash" is such a negative word that I associate with destruction or death or disease. But others might associate it with an ash tree, so what do I know.

I think it is a lovely name. I know two twin girls called Harriet and Ashlynn, both beautiful little ladies and really suit their namesSmile

Honestly, my husband and I didn't agree on a single name until about 2 days before our daughter was born. But it is important that you both like your child's name.

The thought of trying to find names we agree on for future children makes me feel a bit clammy!

Aislinn can be pronounced Ashling or Ashlynn: depends what part of Ireland you're from.
I really really don't like Ashlynn, but that's probably because I'm an Aislinn (pronounced with a g sound).

Since it's pronounced very similarly to Aisling which is a better known name, you'll get a lot of people automatically assuming it's spelt Aisling which could be annoying.

Not keen, myself. Sound like you've put 2 names together to make a new one eg MaryLou, KerryAnn.

Hmm it seems not many people like Ashlynn. To be honest I've gone off it since DH first suggested it but I feel like we have to go with it now. I would like to call her Aisling but DH doesn't like it.

Hmm, I've taken on board your comments. It was my DH's suggestion and at first I really liked it. He's set on the name but now I'm having some second thoughts. I like Aisling but I was worried she would struggle to spell it when first learning to write her name. Maybe this won't be an issue. I don't know how to change DH's mind now.

As has already been posted, Ashlynn is no relation to Aisling or Aislinn, both are pronounced as ash-ling (the g at the end is quite soft). You can hear it pronounced here.

Ashlin is an old English surname, but the first name Ashlyn(n) is modern English usage, and probably a smush of Ashley + Lyn(n).

I have an Ash- name myself (not Ashley), so I'm generally a fan of Ash- names. However, and I'm not sure why, but I've never warmed to Ashlynn.

I don't hate it, and there are worse names out there, but I prefer Ashley and my own name.

Aisling pronounced Ashling is nice.

Ashlynn is a bit eighties trailer trash.

There are two Irish versions Aisling - pronounced Ashleen and Aislinn - pronounced Ashlynn

Aisling and Aislinn are both pronounced ash-ling.

I like Ashlynn. Although it sounds a little American to me, i find it sweet. If I have to imagine a girl named Ashley, I imagine a sweet, innocent cutie pie. Smile

It's Aislinn, close friends name. Beautiful and unusual. Often misspelled.... It's an Irish name. Is your spelling American? I think they would be pronounced the same way?

The only Ashlyn I know is Australian, so I had no idea it was connected to Aisling.Blush
